I have to point out I am an Avon rep but I don't recruit other people, I only really order for my friends and family and don't really make any money from it. I like their products, might as well get free delivery on them lol

This should give you the low down on Pampered Chef.

Of all the 'MLMs' you listed, 'Avon' is perhaps the most difficult to analyse. This should answer your question, because 'Avon' was a failing, traditional direct selling company which has lately tried to jump on the 'MLM' bandwagon, but never really got fully on, and is now trying to jump off.

Avon is kind of in a funny place, it has gone to a more MLM type as they feel that is the way to survive - so they do have area reps, one who sent me a text to try to recruit me (cold text) I also had someone try to get me to join them as well. However Avon sells products at roughly the same price I would pay on the high street, especially when they have things on offer so I don't feel like I am being ripped off in the same way as getting products from other MLM's. I like some of their products - especially their kids range, others are on a par with what I get from the High Street but I quite like them so I get them.

I know someone who did Avon - it was very much for pocket money/towards Christmas and she knew this

Eyespying · 07/02/2016 22:32

In the late 1980s, the management of 'Avon' had to fight-off a hostile take-over-bid from the 'Amway' bosses who previously had been hiding behind another corporate structure to acquire a significant percentage of the 'Avon' company.

At that time, 'Avon' was still an iconic traditional door-to-door direct selling company deriving the majority of its profits lawfully from its non-salaried commission agents regularly retailing products to the general public.

When you know these facts, the latest 'Amway'-style 'Avon MLM' propaganda, is even more ironic.

Do we have any mortgage advisors around? A bot has been stealth boasting they are up for getting a 1.1 million pound mortgage ( will be putting 300k as deposit) - would a 'bizniss' in FL give enough security to get a mortgage - of any size? I am self employed too and I am under the impression for me to get a mortgage I will have to show a couple of years worth of accounts and I would have to jump through some hoops.

And as I have dyscalculia can anyone work out how much that mortgage would cost... Because my brain has gone into panic mode just thinking of the numbers!

And - from my experience, FLbots seem to favour renting instead of buying ( think castlebot and barnbot) .... Is buying the new thing?

sminkypink · 07/02/2016 23:00

You'll need two years of accounts. And a hefty, hefty deposit.
I bought my home pre-credit crunch, I don't think I'd be able to get a mortgage now, not being self employed, anyway.
BIL is also self employed. He bought his first property around six years ago, he had to provide two years of accounts and he paid a 40% deposit.
He's just bought a bigger place (£500k). This time 50% deposit.
He's a chartered surveyor with his own practise. So, not exactly high risk. But still self employed.
If you're self employed then a hefty deposit is the norm.
If I were a mortgage broker I think I'd see an FL bot as a super high risk as so much of their income depends on other people not dropping out.
Unless you can pay for most of it with a super elusive chairmans bonus it ain't gonna happen.
So. tell me why they are all renting, again?

lastuseraccount123 · 07/02/2016 23:01

i'll beleive it when i see the bot actually buying it

sminkypink · 07/02/2016 23:03

this is quite a good article, its really not easy. www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/smallbusiness/article-2310556/How-mortgage-self-employed.html

cozietoesie · 07/02/2016 23:03

It might be completely true that a house is being bought, last. I'd eat my hat if it were on the strength of a MLM business though.

sminkypink · 07/02/2016 23:08

Especially read the comments.
I'm fortunate, there is money, property and trustfunds on DPs side of the family (someone tell me why I'm hiding from the mlm bots again?), so it's not been so much an issue for us as a family, but it can be.
BUT as we've said before, many bots are in a similar position, EC parents don't seem short of a bob or too, which is why we suspect they are in the position they are in that MLM, because it's their families wealth that you see, that is propping the 'dream' up here, it doesn't come from the mlm.

cozietoesie · 07/02/2016 23:13

Timeless Vie should make up some little 'business card' type things that we can buy/download and print off - so that we can just hand them out to people if accosted etc. Smile

lastuseraccount123 · 07/02/2016 23:17

good idea cozie i'll get on it.

MrGrumpy01 · 07/02/2016 23:19

Would they even be counted as self employed though? They don't, despite what they believe, really own a share in a business.

LastAnni · 07/02/2016 23:19

A new thread so quickly. Bloody hell there's a lot of muck to rake.

dadandmum · 07/02/2016 23:23

so who's bragging about that, it doesn't seem to be any I have.

cozietoesie · 07/02/2016 23:25

Well done last. They could even be left lying around, strategically. Wink

MrGrumpy01 · 07/02/2016 23:26

I think her 1.4 million mortgage is her 'goal'. Though she would struggle to get a good rate with such a low percentage deposit.
