have moved down to a 2 bed instead of 3 and have a new supplier - SE.

have just had a bill thru saying we've used 112 units of elec and owe them £26.00 surely that's far far too cheap for a 2 bed? esp as i'm in all day and the comp's on 24/7 tv isn't alwasy on we only have the washer here - where as b4 we had the tumbler and dishwasher as well - but even when we were both out of the house 9-5 the bill was still £100+ any advice?

gas looks about the same thou so not too bothered about that one.

Is it a meter-read bill or estimated. We had a series of estimates of around £30 for a 4 bed then got hit with £300! House had been unoccupied the previous year.

estimated, but i've just read it and it's only an extra 32 units - so we're not tlaking a great deal, i'm v careful with giving accurate meter readings - have just done with teh gas - an additional 38 units for that one, but i'd rather keep things right and pay consistant than have a huge bill.

apparently we've used 122 units (sorry my mistake to start with) at 9.02p each, so the new bill will have 154 units, it's a standard energy charge, and the bill for £26 includes the service charge at 13.73p p/d for 95 days (the qtr) is it really that much of a differnce between a 2 bed and a 3 bed house??/ do dishwashers/tumblers really use that much elec up?

we also had an electric oven b4 but now have a gas one - so surely gas should be more?

If this is the same supplier that the previous tenant/owner had, maybe the occupier sent the company a final reading & got it wrong? i.e the previous occupier paid too much.
Why not try looking at the meter every day for a few days, that way you can work out how much you're using.

Munz - tumble driers eat electricity!! The only thing that beates them is kettles (but they boil in a few minutes and are unavoidable) and electric showers (they aue up from 8500W to 11,000W an hour).

Don't worry about computers, they use v little elctricity. Another thing to look out for are lightbulbs!

you know bein - actually we used to have a power shower in our old house, down here we have an over the top of the bath one - runs through the bath taps, you pull a leaver - god it really all does mount up then?? it's definatly worth giving the laundrette the £2 for her to tumble our washing (I have been doing it once a fortnight - well will be roughly) instead of us having the tumbler - I know it's not as convient but if it saves a lot of money then that's what we'll go with.

we're army, the old occupant was with powergen and had a final bill from then - we were advised/army advised SE when we moved in with teh acutal readings.

will keep a track on our elec useage over the next few days so I can note how much we used here compared to before.

also little thing's i'm doing now like switchin the telly off when no ones' watching it or only using the washer once a day instead of all day for 2 days solid must be working then? have turned down the heat on the washer as well as it's got variable temp, and only having half a kettle of water as well instead of gas - fingers crossed it's not wrong

(in fact the last bill was right - I remember a bloke knocking on the door to read the meter, and then moaning cos I closed the door whilst I got the dogs in the kitchen - silly man, I knopw it only took 2 secs but didn't want them to run out the door! lol) that was for a month and was £7.00
