Question about temporary job / job with no written contract

Asking on behalf of a friend.
She has been working in her current job for over a year. Her hours were increased for the past 2 months.

My friend has now been given the impression that after Christmas she is no longer needed at work. It might just be a misunderstanding and they mean she is no longer required to do the extra hours, but just incase, she wants to be ready with the facts.
She does not have a contract, but does have wage slips to prove length of service.

Can they just get rid of her if they feel she is no longer needed (due to a re-shuffle of staff) or is there some legal document she can wave in their face?

I'm not sure kid, but try the ACAS website/helpline. I think once you've worked continuously for a year you do have employment rights. and even without a "bit of paper" a pattern of working (similar hours, being paid) is like a contract, iykwim. hth

She was given the impression that she was no longer needed and therefore would be out of a job in a couple of days.
Thanks for the suggestions, I will check that website Bundle.
