My friend has only got third party fire & theft car insurance cover, on friday night he was driving home & slipped on the ice & went into a fence (he is ok thank god) but they think the car is a write off... what does this mean under his car insurance is he covered for this or not?

I wouldn't have thought so. But he's probably covered for repairs to the fence :/

Third party means that the other person's car is covered (that's a legal requirement).

Fire & Theft - well they're fairly self-explanatory and obviously aren't applicable in this instance.

If you want cover on your own vehicle (other than fire and theft) then you need comprehensive insurance. Sorry

I thought as much, we always have had fully comp insurance it is just so worth it.

No his car will not be covered, like you I only ever have fully comp, you just never know!!

it means the car insurance compmny will pay all costs associated wth the fence being fixed... (tho he may have to pay the excess)

but not a penny for the value of his car that he has written off!
