Seriously scared, I have £50 coming out my account on 15th for a thing I pay for my glasses called eyeplan and I am supposed to pay capital one £30 on 15th and £30 the week after- I stupidly miss-filed the statement and so missed a payment, but the problem is I am only bringing in £70 a wk atm, which has to pay for food, 2xnappies and wipes, food and basic neccessities.
Im in a bit of poop right now and am not sure how to get out of it.
Its the last thing I need right now with xmas looming, waiting to see if i get a university place and having 4 assignments for college due in next week!
please can someone suggest something??

Whats the glasses thing? Can you stop it coming out of your bank? When they ring, say there has been an error, and ask them to send an invoice instead - that will buy some time...

Quootiepie · 08/12/2006 21:22

Try and meet the capital one payment.

charliecat · 08/12/2006 21:23

Are you claiming tax credits and child benefit?

charliecat · 08/12/2006 21:24

theres a site here you can check what your entitledto

Busyalexsmummy · 08/12/2006 21:27

yeah, the £70 a week is child tax credit, the CB this month has already gone out on food, neccessities and a few xmas pressies for the kids.
I cant beleive i forgot the payment, but theres so much going on for my atm that if my head wasnt skrewed on i would probably forget it

anything you can sell on ebay? Could you ring up and ask to move/delay the payments? Making sure theres not a sleath charge to do so.

Busyalexsmummy · 08/12/2006 21:33

nothing of any great value tbh, am trying to figure out pictrail to sell stuff on here but it comes up with error message when i try and upload pic. have tried selling on ebay before but didnt think it was very worth it for small items once they take final value fee and then a paypal fee...

Cant help with piccy thing, im a bit useless with things like that.
Id ring and see if they could move the payment dates.
£50 for the glasses, what is that? Thats a lot of money.

charliecat · 08/12/2006 21:38

I have £7.44 sitting in my paypal account if you would accept it.
No much. But every little helps as Tescos says.

Busyalexsmummy · 08/12/2006 21:44

Its because they messed up the change of bank account for my direct debit and havent taken anything for a few months(but didnt write to tell me until this week!!)
Thats a very knid offer, brought a tear to my eye, but I need to try and get this sorted myself, thankyou very much though xxx

About Direct debit. My emails [email protected] if you change your mind.
Have you got the piturail thing sorted yet?

Busyalexsmummy · 08/12/2006 21:51

No, im going to email their support team thingy and see if I can sort it out

OP posts:
charliecat · 08/12/2006 21:58

Ok. See if you can get that sorted out and maybe speak to capital one see if they will stall the payment.
Make sure you dont incur bank charges becuase then the problem just spirals.
Use a flannel and water for a week or two instead of wipes, and leave nappys off for long intervals where possible

MrMiaou · 09/12/2006 06:12

stop the payment to eyeplan!

Then speak to capital one, I have always found them pretty approachable. Be honest with them and try and arrange a new payment schedule.

Just having taken a look at the eyeplan website I have to say I am slightly suspicious of what you are getting for your £50. Is that a monthly payment you are making?

If so that is £600 per year, as they don't publish any charges on their website I suspect that you are not getting value for money particularly as under the benefits to opticians it states:

The Benefits

  • Significant increases in revenue ...

As you get the tax credits, don't you get free NHS eye tests?

If so then you can get glasses from about £15 to £100 a pair! Plenty of sites you can buy from, including all sorts of designer frames.

I am afraid that rip-off opticians are a major hobby horse of mine and I haven't excercised that one for a while

Capital One matter, the optical rip-off doesn't!

Am stopping the direct debit and and going to ring them and cap one and ask for a week longer. Had great news today that dps bank cvharges against barclays are coming in cheque within 48hrs, so panic completely over. I feel sooo releived! Thanks for all your advice xx
