I think these addresses should go in a special box on this board. There are so many 'is this genuine' threads. I'll email MNHQ

Toady · 27/11/2006 13:56

Yes Yes Yes

this happened to me

they ask you to put your credit card details in to refund you, do not reply.

Unfortunately they do put a block on your account which you have to resetup iykwim

NomDePlume · 27/11/2006 13:58

Paypal and Ebay will always refer to you by your username in emails, never as 'dear member'.

They will never request credit card details, log in etc via email

Katymac · 27/11/2006 13:58

Thanks

No - there is no activity on my account - I seem to be able to use it

Appreciate all your replies

Katy, in most cases these emails are the result of 'phishing' whereby an email will be sent to a number of random email addresses on the premise that at least on of the recipients will a) have a paypal/ebay account and b) will fall for it and hand over their details.

Anything like this should always be forwarded to the spoof addresses given earlier.

NomDePlume · 27/11/2006 14:02

(ONE)

Piffle · 27/11/2006 14:04

ebay or paypal will NEVER ask you to clikc on a link in an email to offer information
They always tell you to log into the secure home page and change details there if they need something doing.

southeastastra · 27/11/2006 14:06

never click on the link in the email. if you look at the spoof paypal addy they are always http:/.

the genuine paypal address is https:/
