Holy crap, my car hasn't been insured since May!

Not sure how this happened! Our insurance is in DH's name and i presumed there was automatic renewal (I looked and the quote was cheaper) so I didn't do anything and it wasn't automatic! We needed to print out some stuff to go abroad and DH couldn't find the policy and it transpires it wasn't automatic renewal. I'm so upset. I've insured it now, but what the hell... What if we'd had an accident, I'm so upset, I need a good cry and a hug!

If it makes you feel better we had no house insurance for 5 years and didn't realise. Dh works for a major insurance company Blush

Thank you, it does a bit!

Mine was cancelled because I didn't respond to a letter asking for proof of no claims.
We were on holiday and I emailed the proof before we left, which they ignored because the letter asking for proof is also to secretly verify address.
I didn't respond to the letter believing it to be an automated one....
Seven months later the dvla wrote telling me to either insure the car or sorn it.

After checking with the insurance they tried to keep the money, their reasoning being if I had to claim they would have had to pay out because the ombudsmen would accept my email proof of no claims!

So I would need to go all the way to ombudsmen level, despite having proof they cancelled it without cause.

The best bit is they were the issuers of the ncb they wanted proof of Confused

We've never had house insurance Confused

Oh goodness FlatCaponWhippet, that's awful, did you get your money back in the end?

What galls me too is the renewal quote was £311, the quote today was £485! I've changed insurers

Aye, £750 told em to shove it.

I understand verifying address but why would I choose an expensive postcode to insure from!

By that time we were eligible for saga too Grin

Returned from a driving holiday abroad once to realise that the insurance had expired the day before we left Grin

(a) Easy to do
(b) Never auto renew
(c) write the date in your diary for next year ... on the day, the week before and two weeks before

LittleMissStubborn · 25/08/2015 18:17

Don't beat yourself up about it, but I am surprised you weren't stopped by a anpr car, but you weren't and you are insured now.

My renewal date is etched forever in my mind after years of writing it down every month for work for many years I can also tell you the home to office distance for all the places I have worked at
