Taking my 4 children to a seaside resort in July for 2 weeks! House is paid for. Any ideas how much money roughly I'd need to have with me!! Children are ages 8,6,4 and 1. I Was thinking 2 thousand. Is that too much or to little!? Thanks

Sorry that should have said 40 mile not 49, but I Googled it and it's actually 60 mile away. Are you taking a car?

There's loads to do in Belfast so it would be worth heading there a day or too. There's a big Asda in Coleraine about 5 mile from portrush where you could stock up when you get there.

If you have any other questions I'd be happy to answer, have been before?

So I think my 2 thousand saving plan is right!!! Just sounds so much!! I could buy a new sofa! Lol but I love getting away and want to treat everyone! Even if its only in the UK. But my wains love it! Am going to get tesco to deliver shopping once a week that will save a bit. And eat out the odd night

As my name suggests, I live up on the north coast, and I think £2000 is a huge amount of money! There are always loads of (good) free things on in the summer, and even things like mini-golf/bowling don't need to be too expensive (eg go to Jet Centre on Crazy Tuesdays when things are £3)

babyalan13 · 21/06/2015 22:12

Was thinking on going to alleycats on the Tuesday and maybe McDonald's! Lol but I no if we get good weather the beach will be great! And the park . want to go into portstrewert to that can be expensive. But am sure well be fine. We've a lovely we house to chill in to with beautiful view! So I'll be happy!

We are in Derry and have a caravan on the north coast, spend weeks there over the summer, 2k is a mad amount of money to fritter at Barrys / water world! Hop on the bus down to benone / Castlerock. You could use the pool in Coleraine / Limavady too. There are loads of 'what's on' leaflets floating about, lots to do in the area that won't cost much :) Portstewart take a picnic, get coffees, play in the free play park and on the beach? Enjoy yourselves! I bet you come back with plenty of change from your 2k Grin

It sounds absolutely fabulous and you don't have to justify anything to anyone.

You have the money saved and its going to be great!

Lonelylass1218 · 22/06/2015 08:24

I think that should be enough of you budget your money. It works out as £23 pound per day each which if your all eating out everyday isn't much so I would do a tesco shop and take pack lunches with you on days out.

ssd · 22/06/2015 08:53

that sounds lovely op!

take the kids to the amusements, get a takeaway some nights, go to the waterparks and let them each get something in build a bear, holidays are meant to be enjoyed and if you've saved up for it all so much the better!

ChocolateWombat · 22/06/2015 21:55

If I go on holiday in the UK to a cottage or similar, I have a supermarket delivery and would then allow about £200 spending money for the week - that is almost £30 a day.
Some days will be spent on the beach, so a round of ice creams is pretty much the only cost that day.
We will go to National Trust as members too and probably have cakes and coffee.
Would have lunch out one day, but picnics rest of time.
Probably one evening meal out.
Probably 1 'expensive' day out where we have to pay about £60 for us all to do an activity.

£2k sounds a huge amount to me.....but if you can afford it and it is your preferred choice of use of £2k then FairPlay to you. If it's what you enjoy doing and spending your money on - then enjoy it.

I suspect that if you have £2k in mind, you won't bring much if any home, as you will have earmarked it as holiday money.

TheImminentGin · 25/06/2015 11:31

I'm planning on £1000 for a week for five of us. I too do not want to be scrimping or always saying no, on holiday.
I plan many rounds of ice cream, cream teas, lunches and dinners out. Bit of independent spending cash for the children. Few pub trips for me and the other half.
This is our first holiday for a few years though.

Weebirdie · 25/06/2015 11:33

It sounds fab Imminent and I hope you have a great time.

TheImminentGin · 25/06/2015 12:04

Why, thank you Weebirdie Smile

Enjoyingmycoffee1981 · 25/06/2015 12:16

Sounds wonderful OP!

I am the wrong person to ask about spending money, we spent £2,000 last year. For ten nights and it was on a half board basis! That £2k was just on lunches, cocktails and lots of treats for the children. Obscene but I don't regret a penny. And you won't either. Enjoy
