cashpoint timed out before doling out cash....

... but the money has gone from our current account!
My dh used an RBS cashpoint to take out 200 quid to pay our joiner. It gave him his card back, but then... no money! Request timed out. He tried again, only to be told he'd gone over the limit for that day. Which meant the bank thought we'd got the cash - not true of course. Dh went into the bank, they said no can do, have to contact your own bank (alliance and leicester). Dh did this but all they did was make him fill out a form. Got a letter yesterday saying they were looking into it and would let us know in 15 days!! Meanwhile we are 200 quid down as we had to get more money to pay the joiner! Has anyone else had this problem?

This once happened to me but not with Alliance and Lester, it took ages to get the money back though. Different story if we owed them though, they would be on our backs day and night.

Hope you manage to get it sorted.

yeh it's a pain isn't it? There must be some record somewhere that we didn't actually get the money. I hope!! If it was just a tenner I wouldn't mind quite so much...

surely their machine is their responsibility! it's mad!

I think it's yet another ploy by the banks to hold on to they money for as long as possible

Its actually pretty easy for the bank to check the system to see the transaction reports for the machine. Problem is the offending bank (RBS) have to be given 7 working days to respond to your banks request to do so. Nothing you can do to speed up the process but quite often your bank will offer you a credit facility in the meantime if you aks for it (ie overdraft) good luck! x
