Car Insurance - been refused?

Bit of a long story but am really worried but please bear with me.

Been driving since 1988. In December 2004 got caught speeding (SP30) and got fined (£60 if I remember correctly) and got 3 points on my license. Was devastated as had never had points before.

In April this year got caught at the same camera and got the same fine and same points. Now, more devastated!

Have just had my car renewal insurance through - due to start December 2005. I did change the insurance (same company but different car) in March this year.

I rang the Post Office to get another quote and had to go through all my claims over the last 5 years (two - one non-fault, one my fault) and points on my license.

The P.O. came back about twice the premium what I am currently paying. I then rang my current Insurance Company and said I wanted to continue my insurance with them. Everything was okay but then I thought "were they aware of the points on my license" (although I am sure I told them). I knew they were aware of the claims as I was with them when the accidents occured.

When I mentioned to the broker that I could not see on the insurance policy schedule anything about my points, was it because it was just noted on their computer or were they not actually aware (although, as I said, I am sure I told them).

The man (he was very kind) then said he had to go away and talk to his underwriters. Eventually he came back and told me he would call me back.

He called back 10 minutes later and said he would call me back today. He recommended (which I thought was strange) that I look on the Internet (recommended Confused.Com) for other car insurance as (in his words) I might find it cheaper.

This all happened last night and I have had a sleepness night.

The man is not starting work until today until 12:30 and said he will ring me back after he has talked to the insurance underwriters.

I am now worried:-

? Will they refuse to insure me (in which case, when I go to another company and they ask me if I have ever been refused insurance, I will have to say yes).

? Will they ask me to pay back the money for the claim (£936) that they paid out (the accident which was my fault) because at that time I had 3 points on my notice but they were not aware (although, I keep saying it, I thought I had told them).

? Will they take me to court for fraud?

Anyone else been in this situation. I am scared that I will never get car insurance again and will have a criminal record.

Your cars probably a higher insurance group now. There is loads of specialist insurers out there, dont always go for the main ones. You wont go to court for fraud! It was a geniune mistake. Points on your lincence shouldnt affect your claim, it wouldnt even bump your insurance up that much. Was your claim after April?

My 2 claims were 28 October 2004 (non fault) and 29 April 2005 (my fault).

I was thinking that points on my license might affect my claim (in that they now think my claim was invalid) because the premium I paid was based on 0 points and obviously, having points on my license, makes me a "higher risk".

I can't afford to do without my car (my DD2 has special needs) and I need the car to ferry her to the various countless appointments she attends.

I am sitting here, waiting for my phone to ring (or the doorbell to knock) with the police doing me for a fraudulent claim.

Try not to fret - I would be very suprised if they tried to retrieve any paid money or took you to court - it costs them more in legal fees.

Your insurance might go up - my dh just got his insurance off confused.com and I have just changed mine to sheilas wheels and it was £230 cheaper than my existing insurer.

I also had an accident on 29 April 2005...but it doesn't affect my insurance as was non-fault and I have protected no-claims which is vital when you change insurer. Not sure how points work as amazingly have never had any.

Hope it all goes okay

Put your details into confused.com to see how cheap you can get insured elsewhere. That way when he rings back you wont be so grateful that hes not saying OH No we cant insure you!
