P60 from job I've left

I'm not sure whether to post this here, or in legal.

I've received a P60 from an employer I left in June 2014. I know this is wrong, and I should only get a P60 from my current employer. The previous employer is not replying to my emails, or returning my calls.

The thing I'm not sure about is whether my earnings will now be overstated for 2014/2015, nor what to do about it. This could cost me a LOT of money.

Can anyone help?

Think it is correct to get separate ones. Dh just got one from employer he left in September.

FlabulousChix · 31/05/2015 18:30

No you only get a p60 fro a current employer not past employers

EatSleepSwimRepeat · 31/05/2015 22:09

Were you issued with a P32 when you left your previous employer?

Are you on the correct tax code at your current employer? When did you start working there?

RedandYellow24 · 31/05/2015 22:12

Sounds like you have not been registered with your new job. You were and still are registered with your old work. Red flag here as all new tax and earrings haven't been recorded antwhere

balletgirlmum · 31/05/2015 22:16

When you left were you ever given a P45? If you wernt then they still gave you on their books probably as a dormant employee.

It may mean that you are being taxed at the wrong rate in your new job although if you filled in a P46 they will probably have put you in a Week 1 basis which will have reverted to a normal tax code on 5th April.

OneHandFlapping · 31/05/2015 22:16

What's a p32?

I got a p45, which I gave to my new employers, and I'm pretty sure they entered the totals onto my payslip.

My tax code is all buggered up too. I'm currently on D0, so something has gone wrong, and I think you're right, they didn't process me properly as a leaver.

I'm not sure how to sort out this mess though. I could end up paying an extra £4k of tax.

That's not necessarily cirrect red & yellow. It is perfectly possible , in fact under RTI it would be almost impossible not to be registered under the new job.

It simply means the OP is seen as having 2 employers even if she hasn't earnt anything ftom one employer since they left.

balletgirlmum · 31/05/2015 22:21

With a DO tax code you are probably due a refund

balletgirlmum · 31/05/2015 22:23

D0 means you are currently being taxed at 40%, the higher rate on all of your income.

EatSleepSwimRepeat · 31/05/2015 22:28

I meant P45, sorry!

Your best bet is to call HMRC and sort it out with them - you can tell them when you left the old job and they'll update their records. They can also sort out your tax code.

Why do you think you might end paying £4k?

balletgirlmum · 31/05/2015 22:33

The figures on the P60 from the old employer should relate to what you actually earned from April until you left in June. I'm not sure how they actually issued the P45 without processing you as a leaver mind unless they had an old stock of paper forms from before RTI.

But you will slmost certainly not owe money unless you have income from some other source (pension, investments etc)

Start planning what to spend your refund on!

OneHandFlapping · 31/05/2015 22:33

I was thinking because my salary from the first job got counted twice.

Not looking forward to trying to contact hmrc.

I can't think of any circumstance that could happen. The only vague possibility I cdm come up with us they did a rollback on their software for some reason after issuing yiur p45. But that wouldn't mean it counted twice.

Wittynewnameifonly · 31/05/2015 22:48

Some software prints P60s for all employees unless you tell it to exclude leavers. My bet is that they printed them all and a new employee doesn't know that you don't send them out to leavers.

If you got a P45 then the old company will have counted you as a leaver, as you can't print a P45 without a leaving date. The leaving date would be automatically included in the RTI return to HMRC.

As for why you have a d0 tax code, was there a delay in getting your P45 to your new employer? Did you tick a box to say you had another job?

With regard to your income counting twice, that wouldn't happen. Presumably the figures on your P60 from your current employer show a 'previous employment' and 'this employment' figure? As long as the the previous employment figure agrees with the P60 from your old employer then that is correct.
