Working 2 part time jobs + tax allowence

Hi

I currently work 16 hours per week and earn less than the tax allowance.

I am starting another 30 hour job which would also pay under the tax allowance on it's own (both minimum wage) - but my combined will put me over.

Will I just pay some tax on both wages? Or all the tax for my combined wage from the new job? I get paid weekly from one and monthly from the other and I'm confused.

Also do I need to inform tax credits that I have 2 jobs or just tell them about the income increase?

Please note I am not trying to avoid paying it or anything, just make sure I'm doing it right!

TIA

HMRC will give you a tax code for each job. Call them if you're not sure.

I had this when I had 2 pt jobs at one point.

I didn't understand tax codes so I inadvertently ended up getting the two allowances and then got that reduced from an overpayment of tax I made another year- all very confusing!

Basically you should only use the tax code which gives you your allowance on one job at a time- I'd make this the 30 hour job.

Then you pay full tax on the other job.

However as its past the start of the tax you will have to contact hmrc after next April to check you haven't overpaid tax as its taken off you as if you work the whole year, which you haven't.
