Tax credits and marriage

Don't know if anyone can help... I'm getting married this July and (soon to be) DH is moving in as soon as his house sells (but we're expecting it to take a while... hopefully by xmas!!) I called tax credits last week when I had my renewal and they said I don't need to do a joint claim until he moves in. But this seems really odd, and everything online seems to say the opposite and that if we're married it should be joint. I really don't want to end up paying money back or claiming when I'm not entitled, as he earns over 30k. But we are running separate households! Nor do I want to spend another hour on the phone when I'm at work all day! Any one else been in a similar situation??

I dont work for HMRC but my understanding is that you are still treated as single if you are running a single household and only need to tell them once he has moved in.

As a precaution though, I would make detailed notes of who you spoke to and the date and time. There was one occasion when I was told incorrect information but did not have to pay what they said I owed as I could prove the error was theirs.
