A relative has very kindly given me a lump sum of cash for my birthday.

For some reason she has taken this out in cash. Can I just deposit this in my savings account? Or will this flag up as some kind of dodgy transaction?

Anything over or around 5k they will innocently ask a few questions and let you deposit it. Anyone dealing with you with any sense will then fill out paperwork about the transaction and pass it up the company to the money laundering reporting officer or equivalent. They will then decide if they need to flag it to authorities etc.

All of this will be done without much involvement from you since if they seemed to be letting you know it had to be reported etc this can be classed as "tipping off" and they can get into trouble too.

Im worried about your relative walking around with about £3000 cash everyday, from the bank.

Im really surprised the bank was letting her do it without them thinking she was being conned by someone - ie, a rogue tradesman.

I wonder if she is keeping money at home also?

I knew a lady that had over £50,000 hidden at home, Shock
