I know everyone says noone is ever financially ready for a child but me and my husband are starting to try and he is freaking out about mobey a bit. At present i only work part time due to health issues but with my pt earnings and hubbts income we cope fairly well, dobt really have a fortund left at the end of the month but were never really skint and we always do what we want, have days out and decorate etc.

LookiNg into maternity pay i will b on th borderline for smp but if not i know i can apply for ma and should get it.

Here is a rough breakdown... monthly income is around 1900-2k depending on my wages. Monthly outgoings are 1600 but if we were to have a child we would have our cc paid beforehsnd so would be another 150 a month better off. Would u be able to cope with a child at this income? I would want t take th 39 weeks off but would prob go back after that

Have you factored in childcare costs for when you go back to work or do you have family to help or going to work around each other. This is a major expense you will have once back at work.

We have family to help and we can also work around each other as im a carer so hours and times are flexible whereas hubby just works days

Are all your expenses necessary or is there anything else you could cut out or reduce?

katiebrusby · 03/05/2015 22:56

There are maybe the odd one or two we could cut down on, we have sky and we dont scrimp too much on rhe food shopping because we know we have the money there, i also use th car more than i prob should lol at a push we could maybe cut back another £50 a month

We planned perfectly for dc but then pregnancy was twins. Love them to bits and somehow manage. It's good to have a plan but also sometimes you need to go with the flow.

If you have help with childcare, you will definitely be fine honestly. We are on a lowish income and have full time child care costs and manage perfectly fine. Being in a loving stable relationship and having a roof over your head are more important when deciding imo.
