Tax credit confusion

Philoshite · 18/04/2015 09:20

Me and my husband claim tax credits jointly. I work 17 hours a week employed and husband works over 40 hours and is recently self employed. Our ds age 2 goes to nursery once a week. Am considering stopping work (due to issues at work) and because of husbands work schedule and school run and nursery fees i wouldn't look for another one til youngest gets free nursery place.will our tax credits stop? It confuses the life out of me!

Try entitled to.com. It gives you a rough idea as to how much you could get. I think though that you both have to be working to get childcare costs covered

You should still be entitled to child and working tax credits, really am not sure about childcare vouchers. Turn to us is a good site for getting benefit information.

Depends how much he earns.

I might stop nursery for now too as no need for him to go..
Husband would be earning 9800 or so first year but hoping it'll take off really well so won't need to claim tax credits forever
Will check out those links thank you

You wouldn't get wtc for nursery anymore as you won't be working. I'd be very concerned about giving up a job if oh on such a low income. You would still get wtc and ctc, there is a £2.5k disregard from last years earnings, so the first £2.5k that your household income drops would be disregarded.
