WARNING TO ALL - DEFAULT LOGGED - BASTARDS!!!

Hi all

Check your credit history from time to time. I have just discovered that Talk Mobile have registered a default for £10 as a late payment. I was not even aware of this! The contract finished 12 months ago. Now I cannot get a small mortgage of 40K even though I have a 175K deposit. The bastards have screwed my impeccable credit score for £10 and although I have now paid it, the default will remain on my credit history for 6 years!!!

You're mad at a company for logging that you made a payment late....when you made a payment late?
That doesn't make them bastards. It's up to you to keep your credit score clean by not making late payments.

notnotnee · 14/04/2015 13:36

No, I did not make a late payment. How can I pay something I did not know I owed. You are missing the point Madreloco. I ended the contract and paid up. They then decided I owed them £10 which I was not informed of. They are supposed to notify you and give you a chance to pay. They just slapped on the default without any letters or emails etc.

so get it removed if it's in error, i think you can flag something on your credit report in the meantime to say its in dispute and if you talk to a whole of market broker you should still be able to get a mortgage.

chocolateyy · 14/04/2015 13:42

notnotnee It must be very frustrating, even although they are entitled to record the default.

Can I suggest you enter a "notice of correction" onto your file, explaining that the default is for a very small amount, and you would absolutely have paid it had you been aware, and directing them to your, otherwise, perfect record.

Lenders have an obligation to read this, not necessarily to take account of it, but it may help

notnotnee · 14/04/2015 13:53

Hi chocolateyy. I have done all of that. I have a notice of correction and it also shows and "satisfied" however, the default remains and this is causing me all sorts of problems. I have to go to an "adverse credit" lender for my small mortgage and will pay the consequences with the rate they will lend. I have tried everything but to no avail.

Sorry to be dumb but what is defaulted mean? Is your credit history poor/ fair/ good? I'm sure you can get it removed from your credit file if it was a mistake? Go through Experian as I found them helpful.

Dietagainmonday · 14/04/2015 14:23

Call Experian if your as member.. I had something similar, they emailed the company on my behalf to ask for it to be taken off and it was accepted, my score went up dramatically Grin

madreloco · 14/04/2015 16:33

Its quite easy to remove its in error.

UnsolvedMystery · 14/04/2015 17:02

You have £175k deposit and want to borrow £40k, but you believe you are being refused because of a late payment of £10 that has been marked as an error on your credit record.
There is more to it than that! Lenders don't all require a perfect record.
Can you afford to borrow £40k?

I have done EVERYTHING POSSIBLE!!! I even went to my current lender Halifax who I have a 44k loan with and asked to port the mortgage. They said this couldn't be done so I applied for a new mortgage with them. They also declined and it is less than I have with them now. DOh, it just doesn't make sense.

I have found a lender now, but I am paying over the odds due to bad credit. Its a fucking joke. I am seething. Experian say they can to nothing. A default stays for 6 yeas, even though it has been paid and is now satisfied. !!!!
