Hate dealing with them, so would rather not. Currently have mums savings in my account so look loaded (well for me!!).

how much savings are we allowed then?

I don't think savings are taken in to account

zippitippitoes · 29/10/2006 08:15

only the interest on them

gothicmama · 29/10/2006 08:15

does not matter for tax credit but does for housing / council tax

gothicmama · 29/10/2006 08:16

you can have up to £300 interest ( I think) before it gets taken into account.

would it make a difference if I put the money in ds's name? would I need to declare his interest if it went to him?

I don't think you can gift more than £1000 per annum to your child, maybe less

do you get council tax benefit

if it's just tax credits you should be ok

ssd · 29/10/2006 08:31

we just get tax credits

it doesn't make any difference then they are based on income (including income from savings)

Freckle · 29/10/2006 08:40

Although you might be better off putting the savings in ds' name as he would earn interest tax-free.

£16000? That sounds familiar.
Think they would be able to check if it was in Kids names(not sure whether they actually would IYSWIM)

When I was on council tax benefit they even queried my kids premium bonds
