What's the best bank account my ds can open?
Is it possible for him to have a visa facility?Grin
What exactly would I need to take to the bank?
Thanks is advance.

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but I've just opened Go Henry accounts for my lot. It's all online, but you can transfer their pocket money money in each week and also assign tasks for them to complete for extra money.

There is a facility for them to save too.
They are issued a Visa card and can spend at shops or online or withdraw cash. You can assign spending limits.

Basically a pre paid debit card but with a save facility too.
Mine like the independence it gives them. They are older than yours though....

I've recently opened my 11 year old DS a bank account with nationwide. It's called the flex account and comes with a debit card. He needed to be there to open the account and he needed his birth certificate while I had to have two forms of ID (as I don't bank with them).

I transfer his pocket money into it each week and it's good for him to be able to take out his own money and pay by card for some things. Also comes with a 25% off Vue cinemas card which has come in useful (he can use it and one other person who is with him)

My teenage DS also has the Nationwide account which is very good (didn't know about the Vue discount) - and they were very helpful when he lost his debit card. Hmm

Santander 123 mini comes with up to 3% interest, debit card and online banking. It's easiest to open in a branch but can be done online too. Need birth certificate and parents address proof such as a bill or driving licence.

I was thinking about opening an account for my 11 year old.
It was his 11th birthday last week and he got a couple of hundred pounds in birthday money from friends and family. I was going to go with Barclays (who I have been with since I was 7) but I quite fancy Nationwide...we have a Vue Cinema!

Also look at Osper - fantastic for prepaid visa debit purchases, also online with good parental control.
