How to cancel BT whilst still in contract

Hello

I have BT broadband and phone at the moment. It was originally an 18 month contract and I have about 5 months left on the contract. My bills keep coming out at £50 a month but i never use the phone apart from the odd 0845 call. I don't know how they can justify charging all this money for broadband and calls. I want to cancel it and stop paying it but I still have 5 months so I know I'll get charged all these fees. How can I cancel this? I will pay them back the fees but I only can pay them back at a low rate as I'm struggling financially now and can't afford the £50 a month!

with line rental, broadband and calls included only at weekends (the standard package) you could easily be racking up this much.

what you should have done is gone on to the line rental saver - but too late now.

give them a call on an 0800 number and ask for a breakdown of the cancellation costs.

what are you planning to change to?

I've just done this with a contract that was due to Finish Oct 2015. The cancellation fee was only £55 and I will save easily this and more with my new provider so it was worth it.
be warned though.. when I called to cancel they told me the fee would be much higher! No idea if this was a genuine mistake or if they were trying to persuade me not to cancel.

We have unlimited broadband and anytime calls with BT, and on average we pay £25 a month. Our line rental is paid in advance, which works out approx. £10 a month.

Go through you bill and make sure they are charging you correctly. If you're not happy and you don't get anywhere with the foreign call centre they have, email them.

Cancel them, take the hit & sign up to a new provider via a cashback site, & you'll be much better off.

Dispute the final bill, complain to the ceo via email about it. It's worth a shot to get rid.

Wont they let you change the package to a better deal?

I pay line rental in advance, and my monthly bill for broadband & anytime calls is £17.00.
