Question about tax credit and previous/current income

Hello, apologies if this is dead obvious but I can't find an answer on the tax credit site.

Basically, my situation is that I'm married with two children. Up until June 2014 last year we had one income, my husband's, of roughly £50,000 per annum. Since September 2014 my husband has been a full time student with no income and I am the sole earner. My income is £17,000 per annum. One of our children is in full time childcare, which I am paying for with savings. The other goes to after school club which also costs money.

I have done the calculation on the tax credit site and it says we're not entitled to anything because of my husband's income in the 2013-2014 tax year. Is this right? Is there no way we can claim based on our current circumstances?

Many thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

Hi OP

I think you need to call them and explain.
i know if you already receive it and you expect your income to be less next year they do an adjustment, I'm not sure what they do about a new claim.
Just call, be prepared to sit and wait, eventually you will get through.

You need to apply based on your income last year. It will be declined, then you can contact them and ask for an in-year assessment :)
