Scary letter from tax credits

I have received a letter from HMRC asking to check my childcare costs by way of statement from the nursery and to send it to them by 13th March.
Thing is I've actually by accident told them I pay £26 a week costs and I in fact pay £28 (the rest comes from childcare vouchers). Also a few times I've put DD in for extra days meaning I've paid about £20 per month more the last few months. Could they be writing to say I'm underpaid??

It sounds like they think I've been paid too much but I don't see how that can be? Will my next tax credits payment go through? Has anyone had experience of this?

It's ok. Ring the number on the letter and chat with them to confirm exetly what they need. Then get it for them and write a nice covering letter explaining exactly what you have paid, how much was childcare vouchers etc. . There has probably just been a miscalculation somewhere along the way. They will only turn evil if they think you have deliberately deceived them. If you have been overpaid then you can always areange to repay them at amounts you can afford. Deep breaths. Letters are scary, but it's ok.

Also send your stuff to them signed for delivery or deliver it by hand so you have proof.

Its ok, i've had this a couple of times, apparently randomly generated request. Just send them exactly what they ask for by the date they've asked for it. Keep a copy of everything & send by registered post. All will be well from what you've posted above.

Op they do not think anything. These letters are totally random and are sent out to thousands of people who claim tax credits.

We had to do this last year. It's quite normal as they do random checks. Hope it goes ok for you :-)

It's not really a problem if you've been underestimating, is it? If they owe you money, I mean.

I thought you couldn't claim tax credits and childcare vouchers though? I've been looking into it and the HMRC seem to imply it's one or the other?
