We are moving in the new year. From one ground floor to another, 3 miles down the road.
We have not much stuff - few large bits but lots of boxes.
Anyomre moved recently and can give me an idea of costs?
Thank you all in anticipation

We have just done an horrendous move, four bedroom house to storage and then from storage a week later to new house, so I consider myself to be a bit of an expert on removals at the mo!

We hired Mr Shiftit who I found on recommended Tradesperson on Mumsnet. He was good and reasonable. He charges £245 a day (7 hours) which is all you would need I would think. He will also order and deliver boxes for you (additional cost) ahead of time so you can pack. That is a very competitive price btw. Hope that helps. He is on the web if you want to have a look.
Good luck with your move.

We're doing similar to dizzy & it's costing us way more although we are hiring a van as well, we've so much stuff. Only advantage to the way we are doing it is we get a container delivered few days before move & can pack at leisure, company pick up & store for up to 4 weeks & then deliver to new house with same arrangement. We're paying just over £300 for that bit but you do all the packing & unpacking yourself including the container. We're hiring a luton van for a week for additional stuff mostly the enitre contents of our garage & to use for taking old carpets & any other bits we're getting rid of to tip, plus picking up flooring & new furniture (also the obligatory Ikea trip) and that's around £300 too.
DH's aunt moved from a 3 bed house to a 2 bed so didn't move a lot of stuff & was almost £1000 6 years ago, mind you the journey can often add quite a bit onto cost as mileage rates can be high & she did a few hundred.

You can normally get a quote based on the stuff you have. When we moved we had no big items of furniture, wardrobes etc. So it did;nt cost much. Also they quoted based on how many bedrooms we were moving out of.

We're moving in just over a week. We're just hiring a Luton for 2 days (move day and day before). It's costing £75ish per day. We have got our packing boxes via Freecycle. We've got tons of stuff we're taking but we just couldn't afford to spend the amount removal people charge and we are only moving local anyway.
