How soon would a landlord have to sort out leaking skylight?

That says it all really. We have been in our new house for 3 weeks and the rain has taken its toll on the old skylight in the hallway. Around midnight last night I heard dripping and went to investigate, only to find our hallway uplighter catching rain water from the skylight which was then dripping onto the stairs . I phoned the landlord at 8am this morning and told him the problem. He said he would sort something out. Basically I've not heard anything or seen anyone to deal with this yet and it's now raining heavily again. It is a worry as water and light fittings don't mix well.
How long should I expect to wait before something gets done and should I call him again to chase it up?

Did he get back to you? Frankly, I'd call him every time it's raining heavilly and emphasize the damage it is doing to his property - that generally speeds things up!

Nope, haven't heard from him. It did rain big heavy drops of rain last night. Didn't dare go and see if anything was dripping.

Our landlord's agents were p**ing about when we had no hot water in the kitchen/toilets. I rang the local council housing/rental advice place and they were really helpful. They said in our situation the landlord had about a week to get things fixed unless there were special circumstances. They said to put anything in writing to the agents. We emailed the agents with our particular concerns and they did actually manage to get things sorted. Try your local council and good luck.

Hi
This is classed as an urgent repair - it's leaking on to electricity!!
As far as I know the landlord would have to take steps to put it right asap. If my tenant reported a fault like this, I would not hesitate to fix it.
If still no joy, contact your Council's Tenancy Rights dept or CAB.

I'll try the council on monday morning if I've heard nothing. I thought that if I called him early enough before work as I know he's a school teacher it'd give him plenty of time to arrange something and get back to me.
