Help! What happens if you hand in your self assessment late (due to illness)

Hello
As title really. I broke my leg a few months ago - very bad accident and I'm in an external fixator and bed bound and have been on huge amounts of oxycontin ever since. I've stupidly left it til today to do my tax return and found out I don't have the P60 from some hourly paid work I did for a university. I don't have their payroll number. I spoke to them today and they said they woudl try and get the info for me but obviously it hasn't happened and the return is due in tomorrow.
Is it ever ok to be late filing the return? Ie, would they accept illness/pain meds as a good enough reason for filing late?
THanks

Is it the PAYE number? I've had this problem before, I rang to ask and they said to put 'none' in the box and then in the additional notes at the end of the section just put 'employer's PAYE number unknown'. Hope you feel better soon!

Do you have any of your payslips?
They will have the number.
Did you file last year - can you look at that return?

Unless you broke your leg in April and have been unable to walk or work since, they will give you no leeway.

I dont think theyll accept that I'm afraid. If you were well enough to have a go today, you were probably well enough yesterday. Have you tried calling them?

Your accident sounds nasty.. Hope you're soon back to full strength.

You can put in an estimate I think. Look at the form..

TheGirlFromIpanema · 30/01/2015 18:21

Submit it on time as an estimated return and then go back in and change asap.

If you have to put a Paye scheme ref no in - can't remember - then just use 111/11111 Smile

Sorry I think you will be fined the £100 as you've had nearly 10 months to get this sorted (some of which will have been before the accident). Oviously everyone leaves it to the last minute, but anything that prevents you from doing it at the last minute won't be accepted as a reasonable excuse as you had plenty of time.

However, your fine will be limited to £100 so long as you get it sorted in the next 3 months.

I'm gonna do what MAelstrom suggested and put the 'none' in the box and a note. I have never recieved a payslip from them, although they did pay me. It's really frustrating.
Worth noting (for anyone else in same boat) that I posted this on fb and a friend responded by saying she phoned them today to say she was struggling and they gave her an extra month to submit. So that sounds hopeful.
THanks for all the responses.
