Does anyone have a state pension and still receive child benefit/child tax credit?

Yes I am that old! Was notified last Feb that I could now claim my state pension, but chose to defer it to try and save it for a year to get a lump sum. One of my trio will be leaving home on March 15th to join the Army, is going to Harrogate Army Foundation College. I am assuming I will therefore lose his child benefit and tax credit, although it is a college he will be getting paid. Also assume that when I claim my pension which I will have to in March it will be classed as my personal income to be declared, I don`t have anything else just my housekeeping. I will have to phone I suppose, but just wondered if any of you lovely Mumsnetters knew about these things, probably not many out there who get state pension and still get child benefit! Thank you. x

I assume they get paid a decent amount for 16 years old as they live in Starbucks.

Hi OP

I'm not sure you know.

They say up to a level 3/ A level or approved training course.
I'm not sure about his income but if you declare this you may still be entitled to payment for a young person.
I would ask tbh.

I can't help with the pension tbh, but with it being state I would imagine it would run along with any other benefits you receive.

Sorry cant help.
Have you tried the website, I know its a bloody minefield to navigate and understand at times.

good luck Grin
