Erudio Student Loan Deferment

Hi,

Looking for some guidance. I have 4 student loans from between 1994 and 1998. I've deferred every year with Student Loans without any problems.

Last April (2014), I sent a letter to Erudio (who "took over" the loans) listing all the relevant information, and 3 payslips. I had no communication from Erudio until December when they started sending me "Notice in Arrears" letters.

Sometime between April to December, I had called them and they confirmed that they had my payslips and that the deferment request was "under review".

I'm getting a couple of letters a week form them at the moment. I don't feel comfortable filling in their form, and I am not in a position to pay the £1,300 they are currently asking for.

I am wondering what the best course of action is:

  • Go to financial ombudsman?
  • Seek legal advice?

It's quite frustrating, as I have never had a problem before and when I called them up, they threaten to report me to credit agencies. Which, no one wants.

I just wonder if anyone has any specific experience of managing a deferment with Erudio. There new letter asks for bank details and also for me to give them a bunch of rights. I clearly qualify for deferment, and they have the evidence - but if I complete their deferment form and return it, they could then take the money they want by direct debit (money I don't have).

Any advice, guidance or insight on how to deal with these sharks is appreciated.

If you do a search on the word Eurdio in the search bit of MN, there are at least three huge threads running about this and presumably tons of people there who have the same problems.

Thanks Unexpected.

Martin's Money also has a thread of 148 pages and it's quite overwhelming and not sure where to go next.

Wondering if it can be simplified down.

Specifically, I am wondering if anyone has had any luck getting deferred:-

  1. without using the new deferment form
  2. through using the complaint or ombudsman process
  3. by omitting bank details if they did complete the deferment form

Thanks

I deferred with Erudio and just used their form and sent proof of income. I skipped some bits of the form which didn't seem to be a problem. Mine is pre-1998 as well and I've deferred since I graduated. I just treated it the same as under the SLC system and it went through fine.

I put DD details for a semi-dormant bank account I don't really use, it only has £20 in it so I'm not too worried about them taking a DD.

porcelaindoll,

Thank you!

That's really helpful.

I was thinking of going through their complaint procedure, as they have acknowledged that they received my pay slips. But if I do need to complete the form, then that could be a good option.

Did you agree to all the new terms and conditions or strike any out?

Thanks!

Im using the template letter in place of their form (form requests unnecessary information). The template was apparently originally posted on mums net but is also posted here no2erudio.wordpress.com/template-letter-for-deferment/.

If you have lost out in anyway I think you should use their complaint form. Also national debt line www.nationaldebtline.org/# have an online chat service who can provide some basic advice.

Hope it helps.
