Letter from Concentrix on behalf of HMRC regarding working tax credit (Self employed)

Hi,

I'm not sure if I should be concerned and would really appreciate any advice?

I'm a single parent and I live with my Mother. I work 16 hours a week whilst my DD is in school. The rest of the school week I do voluntary work in the field I am hoping to eventually be able to get myself into (And then I won't need these bloody tax credits)

I received a letter last week saying they are acting on behalf of HMRC and they are doing random checks and I have been selected (not sure if this is true?) They want to know if i'm still self employed and if i'm still working 16 hours, which of course I am or I would have contacted them.

They have requested my UTR number, copies of any adverts placed, a letter outlining what I do for a living, a breakdown of my hours, a diary with any appointments in and also bank statements from April 2014 to November 2014.

I work 2 jobs, the first one is from home on the computer, I work 8 hours a week in this job and I am paid through my bank fortnighly. I'm not paid by the hour, I am paid for the work I complete in those 8 hours. It averages out to be about 140 every two weeks that goes into my bank account.

My second job is as a reflexologist, I also work 8 hours during school hours doing this. I have a small group of loyal clients, I am obviously not paid through the bank, not do I put my earnings through the bank as it's not worth it, it's not much money and I need it for petrol/food/clothes for DD etc. I do however, have my diary with all my appoitments in. I don't advertise so have no copies of adverts ( I advertised a few times last year, cost me a lot of money and I got no response - didn't keep copies of these adverts)

Do you think i'm going to be ok or wil they stop my tax credits? I'm so scared. I won't be able to live without this money. I was going to mention my voluntary work in the letter incase they wonder why i'm not working more than 16 hours, do you think this is wise?

Anyone else had one of these letters? Really worried as to why they would randomly selected me.

What Government dept does WTC come under? Sorry meant to be working so haven't got time to look into it - but find out who heads up the department and complain to them? Or try the Shadow MP? Oh no is it IDS?

HeeHiles · 27/02/2015 11:44

Did you vote for your MP cow He is there to represent you still - could still be worth approaching him!

cowshindtail · 27/02/2015 12:07

No,I didn't vote for him. Before all this I was quite likely to have not bothered voting, but after this I will definitely be voting and not for him.HMRC are the ones to complain to,so I've been told. I sent a letter to their Preston address and you need to write" Complaint "at the top of the letter.A quote from HMRC's website is "Both HMRC and Concentrix are committed to ensuring the security of customer information."They have clearly failed with me.

I have received the letter confirming no change to my award but no documents. Mine was masters of everything, mortgage statement, all bills, bank statement, council tax bills. Shall call them again tonight. You shouldn't be asked to send all of this is they can't look after or return it....

I also do not have public liability insurance at the mo..which I understand is not a legal requirement.but shows good business practice x worried sick

Good morning to you all.
Having read the messages on here, I became incensed. My payments were stopped completely at the beginning of August this year..no letter to say they were going to do this, no reason given they just stopped.
numerous calls to HMRC and Concentrix themselves resulted in me sending them my last three council tax bills , a years worth of bank statements and a copy of my tenancy agreement.
This was sent over three weeks ago. When I contacted Concentrix to check that they had received the requested information..which I sent by recorded delivery..i was only able to get an automated reply informing me that claims were now dealt with and I would be receiving my final award letter by Monday 26 September this year.
Have I received this letter ? No.
Have I received any money since the beginning of August? No.
HMRC say they cannot unblock my account as Concentrix have not yet replied back to them.
I am at my wits end. I have had to lend money from good friends because otherwise my rent would not have been paid. I only work part time and moved into this home a year ago.
My next step is either the CAB or my local councillors who are excellent proactive members of our community.
I am not in the best of health and need this sorting out.
It would appear that hundreds of us are in the same boat...truly appalling, the way we have been treated.
