18 year old niece is pregnant, on low income, looking for advice on what she may be entitled to?

She's with her DP and they live together in a rented house. Both on low income.

Just wondering if there is anything she might not know about?

Working tax credit
child tax credit once baby is born
possibly milk tokens
surestart maternity grant
possible help with rent and council tax
possibly maternity allowance once she finishes work.

have you had a look at entitledto.com? I think it is.

I'm in the same position as your niece and she will be entitled to a care to learn grant if she is still at college, she could get income support but it could be harder as she lives with her partner, good luck i hope everything goes well. does she have any friends that are parents?

MamaGhoul · 13/10/2006 19:01

thanks for that.

Not of her own age wendolin, she's the first one. It is a surprise pregnancy, but a very welcome one (to her anyway - and me)

it was the same for me to, i was scared but really happy and everyone else came to accept it and now everyone loves her. if your niece ever needs anyone to talk to i can help her

MamaGhoul · 13/10/2006 21:23

Thanks wendalin. She has 2 other Aunts (its DH's niece) and they did the "do you know how hard its going to be" speeches, I did the "congrats, is there anything I can do, look after yourself" speech

also if she is at uni you get parents learning allowance, 2 loans a maintenance grant and a childcare grant.

if she gets working tax credit there is a childcare element to this too.
