Minimum wage

I work as a nanny and I am currently earning just over minimum wage for my age. However, in the next few months I turn 21 - so of course the minimum wage increases.
I'm worried due to the nature of my employment that the family won't be able to afford such a drastic increase - would be a significant amount of money due to the long hours I work.
Should I broach the subject now or wait until nearer the time and assume they're already aware of this - I am salaried and tax etc paid through a payroll company, so I really don't think they're aware of my hourly rate.
I just fear that if they find out soon they'll make me redundant and I won't be able to pinpoint the real reason being unable to pay min wage as it's a while away yet.
Any help would be appreciated.

If they make you redundant, they may not employ anybody else in that post for a year without offering the job to you.

If they did sack you and replace you with a younger version, its unfair dismissal and you can take them to a tribunal.

So you are earning £5.15 and will go to £6.50 so costing them £1.35 extra an hour

See what happens when it's your birthday. Call tax company and make sure it will increase

Tbh doubt they will find someone to replace you and they can not fire you and hire someone else or you can take them to court if you haven't done anything wrong

They won't get rid of you, they are paying you hugely below the going rate. I pay my nanny £10.74 per hour gross, (10 phone) which is standard round here. I know other parts of the country are cheap but they have got a huge deal with you. Stick to your guns.

Greenfizzywater · 22/10/2014 11:41

Should say 10 per hour net, not 10 phone!

£10nett /£13 gross is for someone with years of exp

At 20/21 I would say maybe 7/8 gross is a good wage - but really anything over nmw is acceptable
