well if you have read any of my threads, you will know dp's debit card has been scammed twice in a month. They managed to spend a total of £750. Well with dp and the police we now know who has been doing it and how they have got the details. I cant go into who it is yet but basically it is a big well known company, so do you think when the police have finished the investigation we would be intitled to compansation??

I would bloody well hope so ! And if it's not immediately forthcoming, a call to the papers about (presumably) the calibre of this big, well-known company's employees should put the wind up them.

Reading between the lines (it's ok, I don't mean you to necessarily confirm this) I guess someone in a position of trust with priviliged information has been doing the scamming. If so, this would indicate a horrendous gap in that company's security process(es) and I doubt they'd want that publicised.

pandagirl03 · 29/09/2006 15:56

Well we know the company that its been happening at, they have also done 25 other people thats known of so far. We do not know if it is the person who takes the details of the card so to speak, who a manager later on in the process yet.But we do know 100% that it is a big well known company this person or persons work at. I guess we cant go to the papers until the police have finished with there work, otherwise the case could be ruined.

oh can i just say so far we have got £470 back from bank for this and the rest of the money is coming back from the bank. But was wondering if we could get compansation for all the stress and inconvience we have encountered.

no you can't profit from a fraud that has been picked up I don't think

My egg card got scammed to a couple of years ago - but it says something for it being maxed out!!!!
It really freaked me out when I got the automated message

catsmother · 29/09/2006 16:11

If that's true that's outrageous. I always find myself fuming when companies make mistakes which then entail stress and inconvenience such as umpteen phone calls and/or letters which use up my time, and, until it's sorted out often involves some worry as well.

On such occasions, some companies do make ex gratia payments, or provide vouchers, in recognition of the fact they c*cked up - and so they should, because it shows they are thinking of their customer.

I don't think anyone should profit as such from any criminal act, but I do believe that compensation for the victim - for time wasted, distress, phone calls and letters - would be in order and I hope a big well known company would do this automatically anyway as a gesture of good will once the investigation has finished, without any prompting.

Twiglett · 29/09/2006 16:13

Egg were great .. they picked up on 'unusual transactions' and called him to check up it was him so they're the ones counting them

anniediv · 29/09/2006 16:13

Twiglett !!!

Twiglett · 29/09/2006 16:14

why are you shocked at me annie?

or is that at the 1K

whoopsfallenoveragain · 29/09/2006 16:44

Twiglett I thought that egg were good at picking up unusual transactions 0 someone had tried spending £200 in Laura Ashley - I only ever spent in New Look!!!

wannaBe1974 · 29/09/2006 16:58

no you can't profit from a crime and imo rightly so. I think it's very unfortunate that this fraud has happened within a large company, but it's likely that one person was responsible, and that company would never have knowingly employed someone who was likely to commit fraud with regard to customer details. tbh it sounds to me as if you are trying to use the fact that it's a large company to your financial advantage, almost a "pay up or we'll go to the papers", and that leaves a very bad taste.

anniediv · 30/09/2006 18:00

Twiglett, I was shocked at the 1K! And still am

Judy1234 · 30/09/2006 18:05

How awful for you.
I doubt it's a horrendous gap in security but something that could happen at any company or restaurant whether any of us give a card number, sadly and people will always be dishonest no matter how well you vet them.
