ok so......got my lovely letter from student finance today asking me to submit details for my benefits etc....while I was on the phone the imbecile person mentioned to me I had overpayments on my grants and maintenance loans.......errr....first iv heard! (left uni in first year, wasn't ready, cocked it up big style....also it was in 07/08!) put through to another nasty imbecile who obviously needed to get some person who informed me that it was now in the hands of a recovery dept. and I had 15 days to sort it out! when I pointed out this was the first id heard of it, it hadn't been brought to my attention in any of the statements I receive yearly etc. he looked on the system. low and behold he told me nothing had ever been sent in 6/7 years, and the system obviously hadn't registered the overpayments!!! but I still had 15 days! couldn't tell me how much I owed in loan overpayment, but the grant was 1385, however he could say that the loan would be more. when I asked how I could find out the loan amount (while bawling down the phone) he said I could email them and they would get back to me in 30 days!! aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh!! I have no idea what to do, if I hadn't have rang up to find info out, I would have had ppl banging on my door for money, im already stretched to the max with other debt repayments ( thanks to shitbag extraordinaire ds's "dad") into the 1000's and this is one last thing I don't need. im freaking out over how im going to pay, where its going to come from, how im going to keep up the house payments etc. I cannot have it affect ds in the slightest. aibu not to pay and to contact the f.o.s for guidance? surely they cant do this without any prior contact? its not my fault I didn't realise and their system didn't either for OVER SIX BLOODY YEARS!! I know im being a big sack of spuds over the matter and I need to man up (I DO know I need to pay something, I don't dispute that, just think its abit off to demand it in 15 days from the first point of cantact) sorry...im rambling now......AND THERES NO FLAMING TEA BAGS!!!! waaaaaaaa!!!! please be nice to me Sad and sorry for the awfull spelling and punctuation, never been my forte and ds is snoozing on my arm lol xx

well, I understand your panic about the call, your post is not very clear though, what benefits do you have to submit? do I understand they say you owe money but cant tell you how much and why?
I am sure someone with knowledge will be along soon but I would in the first instance write a letter asking for details of any amounts outstanding and dates. Did you mean that you are claiming benefits and they need proof?

iv been on income support since I was pregnant (very ill, couldn't continue work and hadn't been there long enough for maternity pay) so that's been...neigh on 3 years now, details are always the same, but I can never remember what I need to send for proof, hence the call. just glad I did ring to clarify now, or I would never have known!, gave the money advice service a call, they said s.f.uk and s.l.c is a shambles and they have had loads of things like this happening. advised me to no longer have contact via phone, but to keep it all via mail and email then there is a paper trail. apparently the last three calls he had about this ended up in court and in the claiments (mine) favour, still paid but not as much thanks for responding hun, gtg mahoooosive thunder storm and the monster is NOT impressed mummy is scared lol xx

OK
Count to ten and breathe.

Get out any of your last few Student Loan statements.
Have you done the deferral stuff as you are below the earnings limit.

If not, dig out the form
or print it out from here
www.ccscollect.co.uk/docs/SLC/20130901%20-%20Deferment%20form%2009-13%20(CCS%20Style).pdf
and submit one for each year going right back : you'll need the right numbers

and never EVER phone them : letters or emails
www.slc.co.uk/contact/customer-enquiries.aspx
their facebook page might be a good start Wink

but for now, stop panicking as it does no good
