Working Tax Credits for Single Dad

JoeE14 · 29/09/2014 11:35

HI all, I need some info on WTC for a single dad (yay go me :))
I have recently taken custody of my 3yr old daughter from her mother, I work 35 hours per week and earn £33000 per year, which is my sole income. I have a monthly childcare cost of £540 per month to which I will be receiving Childcare Vouchers from my employer at £243 per month.

Now, my form has been away for 8+ weeks, I have recieved an award letter informing me that I was due “Nill” but they had my earrings incorrect, which has now been fixed. So on Friday past, I received a payment from “CHILD TAX” into my account of £2.78 (very strange)
Now when I called the first time to get the forms, I was informed by the lady who took the call that based on my details I would be awarded £57 p/w.
Does this sound right? For I am confused and fed up spending £1.20 every time I call them to be hung up on :(

Well I got them on the phone, I have been awarded £23.78 per week starting from this coming Wednesday. This is for CTC and no WTC which is expected after the points made here.

Am not sure when DD is due to start school. No clue to be fair. Suppose I should get on theb all with that looking for schools etc

Me and her need ~ £100 per week to live, that's including shopping and diesel cost to get to and from work so I have no choice but to tighten up the belt and budget to suit.

There goes the weekend fishing breaks ha ha

You might want to report your post to get your DD's name and DOB removed.

Yes Sept 2016 school start.

Have you applied for her early years education free hours ( I was assuming you had but looking at her birthday...)?

ArsenicFaceCream · 29/09/2014 14:05

Actually I think you might get those from January. So that will be 15 free hours per week (maybe slightly less in practice), which will help.

ArsenicFaceCream · 29/09/2014 14:08

Yes, from January for that birthdate;

Done ArsenicFaceCream, thanks for the tip.

I haven't applied for her early years education free hours, since I had no clue about it ha ha How does this work, I do know of another child who goes 2 hours per day but am not sure how that would work with me been at work all day.

It is literally me and the child as my parents are not fit any longer. Dad had a stroke and mum is just too old so there is no one to take the child from this education to the nursery. I might ask the Nursery in fact what current parents are doing.

If you are paying for childcare already, the provider should just be able to knock the 15 hrs pw (term time only) off the invoice once she qualifies. Have a look at the link above.

Once upon a time it was 'literally just me' and two toddlers. You'll be okay Smile. You're doing the right thing by budgeting closely from the start.

Babyroobs · 29/09/2014 14:20

If your ex is still getting the Child benefit and CTC then she is claiming fraudulently and perhaps this is why your award camw back as NIL as only one parent can make a claim fr a child?

JoeE14 · 29/09/2014 14:29

Since both CB and TC are now in my name, I am guessing both of her payments have now stopped as of last week. Going by the updates from both the TC and CB help line numbers today.

Which is great since the mess doesn't deserve to be spending the wee oens money on whatever she wants.

I think the nursery mentioned something to be about doing PreSchool, Ill get a word with them this evening when I am lifting the monster

Personally if you are entitled to claim childcare costs from tax credits I would cancel the vouchers but obviously check first.
You can claim both but ONLY if you have childcare costs of above £300 a week.

JoeE14 · 29/09/2014 14:37

I don't get WTC at all cause I earn to much and childcare is 130 p/w

Sorry £300 is for two children for one child it's £175.

Hi
I'm a mother of 2. One of the is already over 18 not earning enough to maintain herself so still relying on parents, the other one is under 18.
I have been not legally separated from their father for many years, although we still living under the same roof due to my low wages and not being able to afford. I wanted to legally separate but I'm afraid of his reaction and I'm not financially stable to do anything. He has a volatile personality, with some anger and controlling issues to mention few...he is verbally, emotional psychological abusive with me mainly and sometimes with his daughter, with his son is no that bad.
I have been abused by him for very early stages but I didn't see it until recently when I started reading and recognizing things from what I was reading. In front of everyone he look like the most trustworthy, responsible and respectful individual but behind walls I get weekly control with every action I try to do, what (things, food, drink, people, etc...)bring or not to the house, when I'm my only day off he dictates what should I be doing and if I don't get angry and start getting abusive( verbally, emotional, psychological, calling names, saying useless woman, throwing, pushing or braking things around the house, etc...), if I'm working he criticize my work and I'm not good because I'm working too much for little money, I'm afraid even to stop paying for the sky tv( even I hardly watch TV and is him who is the mainly user 90% of the tv. He is the one when and what to watch on TV and we are able to decide only when he isn't around that is very unusual because he hardly is out of the house except to work or go to gym.
So I'm paying for something I hardly use and I'm unable to say anything because I'm afraid of his reaction. Most of the month I end up minimum £300 overdraft. He usually pay for the half morgage/half rent and some bills, while I pay for other bills, food, the weekly school dinners or pack lunches for son. So is not like I'm living there for free and I don't even have a room where to put my stuff or sleep. Up until now I have been sleeping on the sofa in the living room and every night I have to wait for everyone to go to sleep for me to be able to go to sleep( sometimes I have to wait until midnight or even 1 am). Everyone has a room except me, I put my clothes in a cupboard I bought myself and end up putting on the corridor. So life has been somewhat difficult...

I'm working 30 hours and I will like to know if I can apply to working tax credit and child working tax credit ?? as I'm not earning enough. I'm struggling with money every month, end up every month with overdraft and hardly able to afford anything.

Start a new thread to get more answers but tax credit for just one child will not be that much.
