Evening

Just found out that I am being made redundant. I am very confident of getting another role, however I work at quite a senior level, so it could take 3-4 months to start a new job.

I will have enough money to last 2-3 months, but will take some temp work in the meantime, so as to make what I have stretch a bit further.

If I take a job (for example) paying £7 an hour full time, could I claim anything? (This will only be temporary).

I am a single Mum with a 9 year old DS and I pay a registered child minder.

I have tried the online calculators, but as they ask for my earnings for the last tax year, it says that I am not entitled to anything. I am quite shocked considering all the flipping tax (higher) rate I have paid for goodness knows how many years. Surely they should take into account my drastic drop in income?

Thanks

Yes it's very likely you will be , when you apply for tax credits it's important you ask for an in year calculation.

Yes, you should get something based on current year but if you then get a higher paid job and go over the threshold again, you would have to pay it all back next year when you give your total earnings to 5.4.15

Sorry, forgot to say if you are a high earner then you may already be over the threshold in current year anyway.
