Does anyone know if I can still claim child benefit if DS has got an apprenticeship? He's 16, and the info online is abit confusing!

If he is getting the £2.68 per hour then no, you cant claim. If he isnt getting anything then he is probably on a pre-apprenticeship programme and yes you can. Contact your local careers advice / young peoples service and they will confirm it for you.

Thanks, yes he is getting paid which I why I thought I couldn't claim, but something on the website says you can still claim for apprenticeships. Think I better phone them, don't wanna be done for fraud!!

If it's considered an approved training scheme it shouldn't affect your benefits

Thats the confusing bit. Hes at college 2 days a week and working for 3 days. Its an apprenticeship with the local council and is paid, not alot but paid all the same. The info is very vague

My nephew is the same, no child benefit as he's 18 now but DSis still gets tax credits as it's an approved training scheme
