Bought my sister a v expensive voucher for designer crockery shop and sent it last Monday recorded delivery to her, inside a card. She's just MSn'd to say she hasn't got it or a slip from PO. Checked purse and cannot find the flipping receipt for rec delivery! typical! is there ANYTHING I can do, man at local P.O. where I sent it says can't do anything without receipt of postage. Argh, it was worth a hundred sodding quid, am gutted.

i dont think you can do anything without the proof of postage, has your sister rang her local sorting office just incase they are still holding it or has she tried a neighbour or anything to see if they've signed for it if she's been out??

CarlyP · 25/09/2006 14:28

can you call the shop and cancel the voucher??....

Piffle · 25/09/2006 14:28

you could alert the place you bought the vouhcer from perhaps so they could maybe cancel the voucher?

dinny · 25/09/2006 14:31

right, have got sil to go up Fulham Road and try and cancel voucher - please send your vibes in that direction!

has she checked to see if anyone's signed for it, this happened with my passport, i didnt egt it and was shouting and bawling at the passport office but my neighbour had signed for it coz id been out

If you did it recorded delivery, they keep a record at the post office you sent it from, so as long as you know the date you sent it, they can give you the parcel number, then you can track the parcel on the Royal Mail website. Unfortunately similar happened to me, even rcorded stuff goes missing. They could tell me exactly where the parcel had gone missing, but offered me £20 in stamps as compensation!!! The parcel was worth more and I couldn't replace it with stamps!! Good luck.

The PO should have a record if it was sent recorded delivery, even if you have lost your receipt. This is the PO's fault and I would call their head office and explain this to them. You should get compensation.

can't get to speak to a human on flipping 0845 number - gggrrrr

bil sent dd a parcel of clothes last november recorded delivery, and they took 3 weeks to arrive, so it may still turn up.

PatsyJ · 25/09/2006 14:59

Dinny - what a nightmare. Just for future info. I believe recorded delivery just covers you for compensation up to around £20-25 (in stamps often as someone else has said!). I got caught out once with this when something went astray (and never turned up) and was told by the PO that I should have sent it Special Delivery if it was valuable. Also, was told they do not 'track' RD every step of the way unlike SD - god knows therefore why they offer RD then??? I always now send everything SD - yes it's more expensive (but you can check online for receipt/who signed etc for this service).

Not much help I know but I hope you get it sorted out. Very annoying!!!

Also contact the shop. They might be able to tally up the issued serial numbers with the date of purchase IYSWIM, especially as it was a large sum and they could then either void them or call the old bill if someone tries to use them...

dinny · 25/09/2006 18:12

hurrah! sil just been to the shop and cancelled the voucher and has replacement! hurrah! will giv it to my sis in person Sunday! will not be using recorded delivery again -what a pile of wank!
