Mortgage issue who can he speak to?

DP has a mortgage for his own house that he currently rents out. He lost his job last year, and had nobody in the property so really struggled with paying the mortgage and fell into arrears quite badly.

His mortgage repayment was £250 per month which he agreed to add £150 on to and pay the £150 towards the arrears.

He hasn't stuck to it, some months haven't been paid and he's been in a difficult financial situation for the past year. He has got a new job earning £1000 per month. There is still no tenant in his house even though it's been advertised for a while and the rent dropped.

His mortgage providers are demanding £800 per month to clear arrears and so he can keep his house.

He can't afford this.

They are refusing to accept anything less and they have told him to seek advice.

Where can he get advice from? Is it a solicitor he needs to see?

It's not entirely his fault, he couldn't give them what he didn't have at the time and now he is earning again they won't accept his offer of £400 per month.

Try Citizen Advice in the first instance although there isn't going to be an easy solution.

Why doesn't he live in the house? Could he move back there?

Could it be sold?

The bank aren't going to allow him to continue to breach the terms of the mortgage- is it even a buy to let mortgage?

What steps has he taken to remedy things? TBH the bank have given him time and he hasn't come up with a solution, I'm not surprised they want to take action.

Surely the house needs to be sold?
