damage to car by son's bike

son fell off his bike today, onto a busy road, into the path of a car. Thank God he is fine, but he put a scratch and dent into the car. They have taken my address. I feel really sick about it, both for the fact that son could have been really badly hurt, and also that hubby will go mad..
I wondered if i could claim on home ins under public liability, but they aren't open today to tell me! Does anyone know? The policy doc doesn't really seem to tell me either. It is an expensive policy. I have no idea what they will charge, it was a company car, thanks

It doesn't matter whether the bike is insured or not it's all down to "negligence" and "liability". If the bike was at fault then the owner of the car or their insurers (more likely) can recoup the costs of the damage from the bike owner. It makes no difference whether the bike is insured but you will probably have liability cover under your home insurance.

Had a letter from solicitors today. The man obviously tried to claim from car ins, can't. now his COMPANY have instructed a solicitor to send me a sols letter.( to persue a recovery of uninsured losses) asking me to phone urgently.

This has really upset me now, I've had a bad week worrying about 'what could have happened', and now this. Why didn't he send a bill? Please can anyone give me any advice...? thank you..

If it is a company car he may not be able, under its terms and conditions, to just get it repaired and ask you to pay the bill. Sorry, it must all be such a shock.
