Not including housing/utilities. There's me and eight year old ds. Need to stay within budget this month. Always skint at the end of month.

OP posts:
glenthebattleostrich · 31/08/2014 19:02

So this is just food / entertainment? Do you need to pay for school meals and transport? What are your usual outgoings?

DrankSangriaInThePark · 31/08/2014 19:03

Lucky you.

NerfHerder · 31/08/2014 19:03

Is there a typo here?

Fragglewump · 31/08/2014 19:05

So £780 spending money for just 2 of you this month? Lucky pair!

MissBeans · 31/08/2014 19:05

Is that for food & petrol only??

CatKisser · 31/08/2014 19:09

Assuming a typo here...

Trills · 31/08/2014 19:12

What fixed outgoings do you have?

e.g. school bus, music lesson fees, petrol for essential trips, etc?

LadySybilLikesCake · 31/08/2014 19:17

Did you mean 185 for the month? 185 a week is loads!

17leftfeet · 31/08/2014 19:17

Can I come and live with you?

Mintyy · 31/08/2014 19:19

£185 should be do-able. What are your fixed costs within that time?

HattyMonkey · 31/08/2014 19:19

Think it was a typo.

Trills · 31/08/2014 19:25

I don't think anyone is going to be helped by more posts saying "that must be a typo" or "OMG that's LOADS you must be an idiot not to be able to live on that".

Living on less than you are used to is something that requires extra thinking, no matter how much it actually is in numbers.

flanjabelle · 31/08/2014 19:27

I bloody wish I had 185 to live on! You can't really think that's going to be a struggle can you?!

Fairylea · 31/08/2014 19:28

Must be a typo surely.....?!

flanjabelle · 31/08/2014 19:29

Trills you don't get to decide what people post unfortunately.

£185pw is hardly a small amount!

gamerchick · 31/08/2014 19:30

What would you usually spend on OP.. If that's what you've got for the 2 of you but you're used to it being more I'm sure there are savings in there somewhere.

Trills · 31/08/2014 19:30

I am not trying to decide what people post, merely expressing the opinion that further posts to that effect would be unhelpful.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 31/08/2014 19:31

You need to live on £185 a week for a month, for just two of you? Easy.

Next! Smile

LadySybilLikesCake · 31/08/2014 19:33

Food wise, there's just ds(15) and me here and I spend around £60 a week (90% is organic). 1 large chicken lasts for 3 days (a roast, chicken and pasta/chicken curry/stir fry/chicken and noodles), 1 pack of mince lasts us for 2 days (chilli mince and rice/mince and pasta), fish, milk, bread, yogurt fruit and veg. I already have rice/noodles/spices/pasta. Travel is £15-30 a week (depending on if I'm needed to take him to school). I work weekends so we don't leave the house.

Hope this helps.

thornrose · 31/08/2014 19:33

This is the second thread I've read in 5 minutes where posters have jumped on the Op for having a moan.

There's always someone better off or worse off but it's all relative surely?

cerealqueen · 31/08/2014 19:33

Need to know more about your situation as we don't have that as a family of 4.

flanjabelle · 31/08/2014 19:36

I'm just incredulous that someone would feel the need to post asking for help to stay within that budget! If housing and bills are paid, that is purely for food and entertainment. How can that be difficult?

GlaikitFizzog · 31/08/2014 19:45

For one I used to spend in excess of £60 on fuel a week, so that could be a large chunk of outgoings.

Childcare is about £150 a week. Over budget after two things if this was me and that's what I had a week.

Some posters need to wind their necks in. I can't stop you posting but the OP obviously is worried about it and asked a reasonable question IMO.

Floozey what does your budget need to cover?

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 31/08/2014 21:26

Could I please just ask why childcare would be £150 a week for a school-age child who will be in school from next week?

Yes, it would help to know exactly what the budget needs to cover.

As regards food, as someone else suggested earlier, pasta, rice, potatoes, pulses. One chicken can go a very long way, if used sensibly.
