Hi guys, I love this site. It's amazing. So many helpful people on here. Basically, me and my fiancé are at a point where we both want to start a family. We get married in July 2016 and I start a 1 year top up degree course in a few weeks, which I will have completed by April/May next year. We both work full time, myself in a nursery and my partner in Marketing. We earn £32,500 a year between us. How much would people suggest to put away a month so that by the time baby comes, we had a little starting point. Is this do-able? Xxx

There are usually local 'baby stuff for sale' Facebook pages. These are great for bundles of clothes, toys etc etc.

I would say buy a car seat new though. Just to make sure its never been in a crash.

My friend gave me her Moses basket free. My SIL gave me the cot and mattress. I was given a lot of clothes and bought some cheaply on my local for sale site.

I breasted for 4 months and then bought a second hand tommee tippee steriliser and bottle warmer which is the most useless thing I've ever purchased for ÂŁ10 in total. I bought 6 tommee tippee bottles for ÂŁ8 off amazon.

It's as cheap or as expensive as you make it

We paid off loads of the mortgage before DC, as that was our biggest expense.
We also lived on DH wage and saved most of mine, something that we have continued to do.
Definitely get second hand baby things if you can, most of it is in v good condition.
When DC were small my DH worked shifts and I worked part time flexi, so apart from the very odd occasion, we were able to cover childcare between us, which saved us a fortune. Then I started a business from home.

Biggest way we saved money was a very very short maternity leave and back to full time pay. Bought all children's stuff second hand as we were not bothered about new things. Worked out fine. Babies just need cuddles and love. (I expressed breastmilk at work)
