Motor insurance renewal and no claim bonus protection

I need a bit of advice on renewing my motor insurance. I made my first ever claim on my insurance last year. So not sure how this stuff works.

I have 9 years of no claim bonus with Admiral, but the policy says maximum NCB is 5 years. When I made the claim, I was told my NCB would not be affected.

When I use moneysupermarket.com to get a quote for new insurance, there are two questions relating to claims.

Has the driver had any motor insurance claims or incidents in the last five years (regardless of blame)?
This one is easy as there's a choice for claim last year with NCB no affected.

But what should I say for the question
How many years no claims discount do you have?
Is it 0, 5 or 9?

I would type in 9. But then I always phone after the online quote to confirm everything.

Double check with the new company before you sign up. Generally no claim bonus protection only applies if you stay with the same insurer so if you change you will lose your NCB (if you were at fault).

I'd say you have 9.
The other question about claims means they know about that one. But you still have 9 years NCB.

I think the 5 is a red herring - it means (If I understand these things right) that Admiral won't give you any more off your premium if you have 5 years and upwards. So, you have it, but it's not giving you a better price than if you only had 5 years without claims.
