I was the only one on an auction and I won the item on 4th Sept

DH wrote the cheque and it was posted on 6th, I emailed to tell her it was on it's way.

got an email from ebay to ask why I hadn't paid on 12th

I replied that I had sent by 1st class

She responded and said yes she had forgotten to tell ebay I had paid them

I email again to say I haven't recived item

she says she paid cheque in on 14th

and has to wait 4 days to clear

And then I get email today {19th} to say it has been sent by 48 hour courier

The thing is I have paid £7.50 for a 48 hour courier service

I do understand that there would be a delay for my cheque to clear {4 days}

Can I ask for the £7.50 to be returned as I have had to wait for soooooooooooooo long

because she waited 7 days to go to pay it into the bank

It is a company with a shop who also do mail order stuff -- it is in Sussex and the item cost £22 + £7.50 postage.

I want to ask for £7.50 back or I want to leave neg feedback

She has loads of positive feedback and slags off the ones who leave neg or neutral

What do I do???????????

Has she left feedback for you yet ??

If she hasn't and you leave her negative feedback then she will do the same to you.

sorrell · 19/09/2006 18:21

What was the item? was it heavy? Was the postage v excessive? Ebay etiquette is to try to come to an agreement with the buyer or seller first. Neg feedback is extreme and only used after other avenues explored first.

Kelly1978 · 19/09/2006 18:21

has she left feedback for you yet? Bear in mind if she hasn't, then you will jsut get retaliationary negative back.
It isn't right but people often do take a while to pay cheques in, most people mcuh prefer paypal and don't liek the hassle of going to the bank!

sorrell · 19/09/2006 18:22

If she takes paypal then cheques are really a hassle

Enid · 19/09/2006 18:23

aks her for the postage back or you will leave neutral feedback as you have paid for a service that was misleading (ie 48 courier that took over a week)

Enid · 19/09/2006 18:23

i only accept paypal personally

tamum · 19/09/2006 18:24

I don't think you should leave a negative for this to be honest. The thing is that most people now will use Paypal, which means instant payment for the seller, so she probably uses the 48 hour courier on the basis that the buyer will use Paypal and she will send stuff out immediately. I agree it's not very fair, but I think negatives should be reserved for goods that are not as described, and when other avenues have been exhausted. If you do decide to neg her then I would abandon your current username and get a new one, as she will surely leave you a neg in return.

Sorry your first eBay experience wasn't a happier one.

RTKangaMummy · 19/09/2006 18:27

We agreed beforehand that I would send a cheque

As i don't know anything about paypal

So she says on the advert thing that she does cheques too

I don't really mind about what she leaves for me as I don't know if I will do it again

I just think that 48 hour should mean 48 hour

and not 1 week 48 hour

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 19/09/2006 18:28

No she hasn't left anything on me yet

It just seems that as this is her business rather than a hobby

she should be more professional

OP posts:
tamum · 19/09/2006 18:29

Then I think you should have suggested at that stage that you pay reduced postage for a different method of sending it- clearly she couldn't have sent it in 48 hours when you pay by cheque.

RTKangaMummy · 19/09/2006 18:29

It is heavy btw

OP posts:
RTKangaMummy · 19/09/2006 18:34

I will try to get the money back then

I don't think I should have to pay so much for 48 hour service if she waits sooooooooooo long to pay the cheque into the bank

She didn't tell me that there was going to be a delay in going to the bank to pay it in

I understand the 4 day delay but this has been getting silly IMHO

Perhaps the postage cost is always the same by that courier? And perhaps even more by Royal Mail?

pandagirl03 · 20/09/2006 00:24

in all fairness to the woman you won the item on the 4th but sent the cheque on the 6th. The way royal mail is she might not of got it the next day, what with alot of them on strike and all the postal charge changes. If you pay by cheque you must understand that it needs time to clear, she doesn't know you so wouldn't know if cheque would clear etc and cheque wouldn't of cleared until today because of weekend. she should of kept you better imformed tho and if she did get the cheque earlier then put it in bank sooner, but dont think she deserves negative feedback. maybe email her first to discuss it then leave neutral if your happy with goods but not service.

RTKangaMummy · 20/09/2006 11:32

Oke doke, thanks

the auction ended at 9.20 in the evening of the 4th

And then I was in email contact with her afterwards with addresses etc. and sent it on the 5th but after the last post so went out on the 6th {@ 8.00am} iyswim

I totally realise that the 4 day delay would happen

I do not have a problem with the 4 day delay

It is the fact that this is her business {not a hobby} and she had the cheque for sooo long before taking to the bank that is making me frustrated

She had deffo got the cheque before the 12th

I think I will wait and see what it looks like and how it is wrapped etc.

And then I will email her and see what she says

Thank you for your help

There might be a million reasons why she took it to the bank late. She might have been ill, or had to look after a sick child or been settling a child into school. She might have mislaid it, or thought her husband had paid it in. It might have arrived after she left the house on the 7th, she was busy on the eighth, it was then the weekend and she might have forgotten about it on the Monday.
Also, I imagine she always uses the same courier for whom 48 hours is their standard delivery time, so to find another one specially for you a few pounds cheaper would be a bit of a tall order IMO. Email her if you like to ask for a discount for the delay (if the delay matters to you) but don't leave negative feedback. I'd hate it if someone did it to me. I think I'm thinking abotu this too much to avoid having to tidy up!

RTKangaMummy · 20/09/2006 11:50

No sorry

what I mean is that she should be more proffessional

If it was a mum selling her child's old toys etc then I would think well she is busy with being a busy mum

BUT imho this is different she has a mail order business and an ebay shop so she should be more organized and professional

Like if your order something online and it says 4 days for a cheque to clear and then 48 hour courier service I would then expect it to be delivered anytime from 6 days later

Otherwise why say it will be a 48 hour delivery

if she had said 21 days or something like that then I would then have not been getting frustrated

And for her to not inform ebay that she had received my cheque when she had done and so they send me a reminder

I think I have decided that ebay is not for me

My expectations were obviously too high

mumfor1standfinaltime · 20/09/2006 11:59

When you pay for anything at all on ebay the postage time is from 'cleared payment', not from when cheque is recieved. A cheque is not money until it has cleared.
You would have been better off sending a postal order which imo is 'money'.

She does however sound quite disorganised and needs to keep her buyers informed of her situation. I sell a lot on ebay and always email my buyers when I am posting goods etc.

RTKangaMummy · 20/09/2006 12:07

Thanks for all your views

Will see what happens when it arrives

But ebay is deffo not for me

One of the reason I chose to go with her for my first go on ebay was because I knew where she lived and so felt safe iyswim

There are lots of companies that sell the same items

mumfor1standfinaltime · 20/09/2006 12:09

Kanga, don't be disheartened by this experience. IME ebay shops are worse offenders for not communicating with their buyers than a private seller.
This is why I rarely use them.

Kidstrack · 20/09/2006 12:23

once had a seller who held a cheque for over 3 weeks, but the seller had sent the goods after she recievd the cheque which was really good, but it was a cheque for £70 that i was waiting to be taken out my account, the seller only ever went into her bank every 4weeks, but his would have been absolutely fine if she had mailed me and said so, sometimes they should add a note to the listing about cheques and banking

shazza4 · 20/09/2006 12:35

Hi, I use ebay for both buying and selling, don't be disheartened you can really pick up some great deals especially for the kids. My advice would be to give her positive feedback but write that you were disapointed by the time it took considering you paid for a 48 hr courier ( this is considering the item you purchased is in good condition and well packed). Then other perspective buyers are aware that seller is a bit slow when it comes to posting items but you won't be given neg feedback either - hopefully. Good luck -
