I have been with a car insurnace company for a few years now and have resicived a letter today from them stating that due to chamge in underwriting policy they will not be able to renew my policy next month.

Have just spoken to some call centre in New Delhi and got bloody nowhere ! Bascially it looks like that because I have had three climas in two years they will not insure me, bascailly they are refusing insurance which could cost me alot of money !

the claims are : windscreen

Accident where pedistrain walked out infront of me, independant witness to say it wasn't my fault but that of pedestrain. Insurance company had no one esle to cliam off so it was a 'fault ' claim.

Recent one where neigbour reversed into my STATIONARY car, insurance company still dragging feet to get steemnet from independant witness who says it was not my fault !! Happened June .

This has really f**ked me off, can I name them ?

Anyone recommend a reasonable car insurance company, thsi policy could cost me a few bob !

DH has been using Zurich for quite a few years now and has been V impressed with their service - good price too.

try confused.com or elephant.com. Put in your details and they will search nearly all insurance companys for you.

throckenholt · 19/09/2006 11:15

who are you with ?

The problem is likely to be with outstanding claims being dealt with any other insurer will be expensive.

Is there anyone else you can talk to - - do they have a problem resolution department ?

emmatom · 19/09/2006 11:15

Definitely try confused.com as charlie cat suggested. You put your details in once and they do all the work for you on lots of the major insurers and immediately give you quotes from them all.

Some companies that don't get included on confused but I've found are good are Direct Line, Tescos and LLoyds Bank.

Iam not SURE whether I can name them , does that give you a clue.

I am so frutstared because I spoke to customer services number and asked to speak to a manger or supervisor and they wouldnot speak with me. I will search for another number.

im with tescos but never needed to claim.

go on, name and shame - if its churchill, dont tell me - im waiting my job interview date through lol (worked there pre-kids too)

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 19/09/2006 11:21

aha - Esure.... strict on claims i believe.

Go to elephant and get the best deal - i would say avoid budget though.

mummydear · 19/09/2006 11:21

I ahve already spoekn with the claim dept re the outsatding claim and told them to pull their finger out, Am waiting a call back from them.

Already chsed them up at the begining of the month and told them it needed to be sorted as my renewal was due.

Just really pissed off why they didn't tell me before as their underwriting policy had changed or warned me.

TBH in your situation with an unresolved claim right now, I'd find a broker you can actually talk to.

I know that most online deals are a few quid cheaper, but that is simply because they refuse to cover you once you have made a claim or if you have speeding offences.

A decent broker will find you a good deal, and will help fight for you in the event of a difficult claim.

Where are you. I can recommend our broker if you like.

bubblerock · 19/09/2006 11:23

I just changed mine, went through Quidco and got £100 cashback - it was with Prudential and the quote was cheaper than my renewal quote even without the cashback!

janinlondon · 19/09/2006 11:24

I think the problem will be where they ask "Have you ever had insurance refused" or words to that effect, which I think they all ask now?

mummydear · 19/09/2006 11:25

This is my problem , basically they are refusing insurance !!

I live in Surrey and may try a broker , pissed off with bloody call centres !!

throckenholt · 19/09/2006 11:47

that is the reason the online things are cheaper - they won't touch anything that is out of the ordinary.

Definitely seems your approach is either reach a deal with your current insurer - if you can track down someone to negotiate with, or go via a broker.

It is all extra hassle that you can probably do without.

clumsymum · 19/09/2006 11:52

but I find dealing with the broker a damned sight less hassle than trying to negotiate all our insurancves individually on the net.
