Natwest are charging me payment protection on an expired credit card

Is this right??

We moved to the US last year. It's a temporary move, so I've kept my UK Natwest account open. I check my balance online only occasionally as apart from the occasional direct debit, there's not much activity.

I had a Natwest credit card which I never used and which expired last summer. When I called to ask if I could get a replacement card I was told that I'd have to reapply as the type of card I'd had was no longer available. I didn't bother as I don't have an income at the moment, here or the UK (currently a SAHM).

I logged in to check my bank balance for the first time in a few months and discovered I'd been charged £35 in payment protection fees last month on the long-expired card. How can this be?

It's probably an admin error. Call your bank and sort it out. (DS and DH both work in a banking call centre, and deal with this sort of thing all the time. You might need to talk to a line manager, but it should be sorted out quite quickly.)
