Fucked up my Step Change DMP - what can I do?

Received a letter today saying they have canceled my DMP as I have not gave info of my creditors, dispite there requests.

I did call them regarding this and was told it was fine and to review my budget with them as it has to be done every so often then they would take all that info then!

I submitted my review online and now this?

Panicking like hell how am I going to sort this out, will they reopen? I'm due to give birth in 7 weeks and really don't need this ??

Then you'll just have to sort it.
You'll be fine.
Sit down with a pen and paper and be honest with yourself about what you owe
then be honest with yourself about what income you have
then be honest with yourself about what you can repay.

the point is they cannot help you if you do not help yourself
and owning up to the true scale of it is part of that process

how much?
how many people?
accrued over what time?
current income streams?
current monthly payments?

panicking is a waste of time and 7 weeks is more than enough time to take control

Will stepchsnge be able to set it up again or will they no longer help me?

Will I be able to use another company? I loved using them it took the stress away and I get people contacting me!

I know what I can afford to pay a month, they sane as I was paying stepchsnge never had a problem meeting the payment!

You'll have to talk to them in the morning
but you also need to concentrate on what YOU can do about the fact that they cancelled the plan because you were not honest with them

there is no magic wand
the only way to get out of debt is to take full responsibility for your actions and start to deal with them

have you done your lists?

Advancedtech · 29/07/2014 21:53

I was honest, I told them about a new debt, have the creditor there details then thought it was taken care of when I completed my review online like they asked me to, they didn't want the details previous to this!

So to be honest I can't actually understand why it's been cancelled because I did do what they told me to!

No list yet not sure where to start, I don't get letters from these people anymore and haven't for over a year! So trying to track things down will not be easy

Did you have a new debt whilst in an on going dmp with Stepchange. If so, that could be the reason for them cancelling it.

When you sign up to a dmp it is on the basis that you do not commence any new agreements or ask to borrow money from anyone.

If this is not the case then call them and have a full discussion as it could be a simple breakdown in communication.

TalkinPeace · 29/07/2014 21:59

OK
you were in Stepchange and you took on a new debt
and you cannot see why they are hacked off?

Stepchange surely have been sending you statements and progress reports that you have checked and matched to your records so you knew where you were up to?

this is your debt - nobody else's
other people can help you but you have to be willing to take on the mental responsibility.

No it wasn't a new debt, actually a old water bill the exh left with me but it only came to light recently, they were fine with this when I told them!

I haven't taken out credit of any type since my DMP started!

Sadly I have a DMP because my ex husband let all the household bills etc run up after I left him and sadly they were in my name. The knob doesn't pay maintenance either!

Call them, ask what they need from you and provide as much as you can over the phone, have to hand any letters and creditor details you might have, they will need name and your ref number most likely. If they don't have these details they cannot arrange payment (although I'm not 100%how stepchange works with regards to creditor payments) I work for a DMC, for us to be able to act for clients we of cause need all the information from client so it does work both ways, but once we have te info we start acting.

Give them a call and see if they are willing to re-open your file, and then work with them to become debt free.

Depending on your circumstances maybe worth looking at other debt solutions.

Thanks lost blonde, just so stressed been on my DMP for over a year now and was making my payments and was worry free, really can't stand the stress of having to try and start again from fresh sadly when I worry I tend to bury my head, but everything was going so well the last year my finances were in a good manageable way!

I'm going to call them first thing tomorrow morning as soon as they open and try to get it re-opened and bavk on track

How did you get on today tech? I understand it's so hard to deal with, but once your back on track you will feel so much calmer and able to deal with things.
