How accurate is the Tax Credit calculator?

Renewed my tax credits recently and as DH is self employed, his income has gone down so I went to the calculator to see if it would change our tax credit entitlement.

I put everything in and was shocked to see that the result was about £60 a week LOWER than what we are getting now. I'm really scared they have accidentally overpaid us and this is the actual amount, plus we will have to pay back hundreds of pounds. We really can't afford either of these.

DS is higher-rate disabled so we get a bump because of this. It asked all about this so I am assuming it took this into account?

Anyone get a wildly different result to what they actually get? The entitledto website produced a different figure again.

It goes from the current date, not the start of the current tax year. If you put your details in on the 1st April for a calculation for that year, it will give you the amount due from the 1st April to the 3rd, or whenever the tax year changes, IYSWIM.

Hope this helps.

I think the entitledto web site goes from the start of the tax year to the end, so it will be a stable figure rather than the tax credits web site (which only gives the total for the number of weeks left in that tax year).

Sorry if I'm not explaining this very well Blush

Ohhhhh ... so it would be giving me an amount for July 29th-April 5th and not a full year? Phew!

Thank you for averting a sleepless night!

Yes, that's it! Smile It does say somewhere on the site, I think.
