i dont think its ridiculous to spend the money ...how can we help?

nutcracker · 08/09/2006 18:37

Not sure what you can do legally , but imo they would be pretty heartless to not come to some arrangement with you over it.

I've known people get a cd of their sitting. They could charge a premium for it though as essentially they are forfeiting copyright.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 08/09/2006 18:39

ooh tricky one - if you can bear it I'd arrange to go in and speak to the manager to explain to him why you want the entire CD. I'm sure if you have the opportunity to talk to them and explain your reasons for wanting it -

Beetroot · 08/09/2006 18:40

YG, I would explain the situation to them. I am sure unless they are totally heartless that they will help. If they don't perhaps a letter to the local paper (or threat to write) might help

NotAnOtter · 08/09/2006 18:40

do they know about dh at the photographers ? maybe when they have thought about it for a bit they will show willing and offer the cd?

StinkyPete · 08/09/2006 18:40

don't want to overstep the mark here, and it may not feel right for you; but how about explaining your situation to them and offering to make an article of their generously giving you the photos in the local paper, it would be a fantastic story for a new business to be associated with. obviously you'd have you loss in the public domain then, so maybe take some thinking about??

i didn't mean the local paper as a threat - but as an incentive; ie look how lovely this new company is...

AngelaChill · 08/09/2006 19:23

When we got married the CD of the entire 800 photo's was £1500.00
One year later when it was clear we weren't going to order any more and he needed the money for something else we got a letter asking us if we wanted the CD for £150.00

soapbox · 08/09/2006 19:30

YG - most people do not go back and re-order photos from old sittings so the new owners would not have been expecting to make more money from the shots they have of your sitting. As such I think anything they get for them would be a bonus!

I would start by offering £250 but would be prepared to pay a lot more to get them all on CD. They are useless to the photography company - but priceless to you.

I think once you explain the situation to the new manager (best done face to face with a few tears if you can muster them up to order) then you should be able to do a deal.

Good luck

Yorkiegirl- I would start with a letter explaining the situation and see what happens. If it doesn't work, then go in and see them, taking a friend with you. I am firm believer that if given the chance to do something noble, most people will step up to the mark. Your situation is extenuating and hopefully they will see that and help you out. Good luck.
