I was sat in a queue in town this morning and a car in front of me reversed into me. We were on a hill and I saw hime coming for me, there was a car behind me and I couldn't go anywhere so I beeped my horn and waved my hands etc..but I'm not sure wether he had a radio or something on as he didn't seem able to hear or see me.. he rolled right into the front of my car. There was a huge lorry coming round the tight corner so I can see he was reversing to let the lorry through, but to the cost of my front bumper! He was very decent, and got out of his car, asked me to pull in and he said sorry. He couldn't apologise enough when he saw I had my young son in the car with me. He give me his insurance details and his name and address and number (which is right as he showed me his license) I said not to go through his insurance, just to get me a bumper and that'd do. I called my dh who said there was a small crack already in the bumper (which I din't know about) but that he would look this evening and see if it's much worse. I don't know wether to leave it and tell the fella there was already a crack in the bumper, or let him get me a new one, I feel like I want to tell him not to bother, he was shook up too, and it was an accident..

I would go through the insurance just to get your car checked over if nothing else.Mh dh is in car ins and sometimes its not until a professional looks at your car that other stuff may be found-like damage to the chassis ect. You could pos. have more damage than just your eye can see.
You can always withdraw the claim if it is minimal and go through with it privately.Poor you-all of you

Go through the insurance. Some woman in a 4wd opened her door at a petrol station recently & put a BIG dent in dhs car door. She said she'd pay to replace it rather than go through insurance so dh got a quote 3 weeks later as he was working away from home. Rang up to tell her only to get HER dh telling him to F**k off and whistle for the money. He's now left it too late to claim, he wont call the police as she was obviously pregnant & he doesn't want to upset her, plus he doesn't trust her dh not to start causing trouble and we're £300 down. Go through insurance company & don't trust anyone I say.

Depends how old your car is etc. I think if your bumper is damaged then its only fair he replaces it (give him a quote so he can see if he'd prefer not to go through his insurance). If its really minimal, and your DH says its not much worse, could you suggest a goodwill compensation, say £40/50?

Do go through your insurance and get the car thorough checked over. There can be non-visible damage caused by a bump and you don't want to just accept a new bumper only to discover later that there was greater damage. It doesn't matter if there was already a crack in the bumper. If it is damaged by the bump, then the other chap has to replace it (plus pay for any further damage).

I hadn't thought about any other damage tbh. His car didn't have a mark on it. It was brand new and I remember saying to him "Jesus, I'm glad I didn't drive into you in that new car!" He smiled and kept saying how he didn;t even think, he just reversed for the lorry...I just know he was honest. He had bought the car for his wife. No-one was hurt, so I think I'll wait until he calls me about the bumper and in the mean time get a mechanic to look over my car for me. Thanks

sorry I missed the last 2 posts, Yes, I didn't even know there was a crack in it to start with, it was Dh that said "Well, I suppose the wee crack that was there didn't help" and then I worried incase it wasn't any worse and the chap was paying for damage that was already done iykwim?

I will get a quote and then let him get a quote etc..and go to the cheapest? As I said, I don't want money from him. My car isn't new, it's a 2000.

Personally I would ge5t a mechanic to look over teh car for you, won't cost anything at a decent garage. If then it is just the bumper I would let him pay for it. If it is more than that then explain and contact your insurance co.

If you get down to a garage asap, then you won't leave it too late IYKWIM
