Remortgaging process

Our fixed term mortgage is coming to an end and will revert to their SVR after that (which isn't much higher!).

If we do nothing, the rate switches to the SVR or we can switch to another fixed term.

What will I need to submit to the current lender to change mortgage type (same mortgage, same property etc)? I think laws have changed and I really really can't be going through all the: outgoings, salary slips since 1942, inside leg measurement, P65s for the past 20 years, blood group, first pets name, etc. We have had our mortgage with them for about six years now and have never missed a payment, had any issues etc.

Has anyone remortgaged recently?

We just have. Went through a broker (London & country) it was all very straight forward, 3 months payslips and bank statements and it was done

nicename · 14/06/2014 10:22

Ahhh. We would most likely go with our existing supplier as their rates are good.

If you don't want to change the term or repayment type you shouldn't have to submit anything.

SwedishEdith · 16/06/2014 16:38

We've just done this with current lender and it was just a phone call to see if we could, two forms to sign and then their letter to say "ok" No sending of documents at all

Madamecastafiore · 16/06/2014 16:39

We had to produce everything and the kitchen sink, they wanted my bank statements and credit history too even though I am not on the mortgage.

talulahbelle · 16/06/2014 16:42

We extended the term slightly and fixed for 5 years and only got our offers in last week. So 3 months of endless paperwork. Partly down to the crap organisational skills of our mortgage advisor though.

nicename · 17/06/2014 08:07

Hmmm. Anyone done it in a 'redundancy situation'...? (Ie same supplier, change rate/term?)

Who are you with currently?

nicename · 17/06/2014 13:47

First Direct, who I think are fab.

We're with Woolwich and just thinking of renewing the mortgage for a fixed, as our original fixed rate expired 12 months or so ago. Just getting someone to talk to that's the problem. If we don't have to go through all the paperwork issues, I'd probably stick with them, but if they want to re-check paperwork etc., I'd be inclining to see who is offering any better deals.

I shall be watching this with interest nicename!

I stayed with the same provider (coventry) and took out another fixed term mortgage. I didn't have to supply any payslips or bank statements. I have been with them for years and years though.

nicename · 17/06/2014 14:29

They usually have the best rates - its just the whole 'so send us 3 months of payslips...' bit that is the issue for us at the moment!

When we first found them, I had asked an IFA to source some mortgages and they weren't on the list. He said that they weren't considered as they didn't pay commission - he then advised us to go with them as the deal was so good!

I am worried about the rates creeping up again, so am keen to fix it again this side of Christmas.

We have just remortgaged with our current lenders - Halifax. Just signed a form!

onedogatoddlerandababy · 17/06/2014 14:43

Yes I did re the redundancy/now sahm, extended my term back to 25 yrs and onto fixed rate. Just got told to apply online as I'd then get the cashback for switching product. No documentation required.
This was a year ago though and I know that the process may have changed since then. My ltv is also about 35% so I'm pretty low risk for them as a lender.

BackforGood · 17/06/2014 15:01

We remortgaged with our current lenders twice now (last in the Autumn) and didn't have to send them anything. Worth talking to them in advance of coming to the end of the deal though, as it takes a few weeks for them to faff about, so worth having it all set up to smoothly slide onto the next rate rather than going on to the SVR for a couple of months.

Mitchdafish · 17/06/2014 19:15

For us to remortgage without any changes to the amount or the term it could be done with one phone call (Santander). As it was we made some changes and so have gone through the faff.
