Tax Credits and Child Benefit - odd situation, any advice?

Hi all, just looking for advice or even opinions on what we can do/are entitled to.

OH and I are expecting our first baby early next year. He has an 8 year old with his ex wife who lives 50/50 in both homes, everything very amicable.

In an odd turn of events, when they were still together, the Child Benefit got paid to her and the Child Tax Credit to him. They are practically the same amount, so when they split they agreed to keep in this way and HMRC and CSA have been fine with this too, even if it is unusual.

Now, my concern is how this will affect the Child Benefit for our new one. It's my first, but his second and he doesn't receive CB for his eldest. I'm a bit puzzled as to what to do, and I really don't want to rock the boat with having to move around payments etc - it's taken the last two years to fit everyone into a friendly position and everything is really nice right now!

You can claim the CB for your new baby without affecting the CB claim for your DP's DD.

Phew, I think my raging hormones are making me over think everything right now...
